Fletcher Cox!!!

The Mo tradeup set us back badly. And if we don't trade up at all, we end up w/ Brockers and Bobby Wagner. Wagner is only the best MLB in the NFL!!
We could’ve had Kuechly that draft as well.

Moss? I think you guys are nuts. Ellis was a very good player for a long time. Moss isn't even in the conversation!!!

Joe Montana
Ed Reed(Took Roy Williams)
Steven Jackson
Sean Alexander and Koren Robinson(Picked w/ the 1sts given up in the Galloway trade)
Ekubn

Lafleur
Shante Carver
Danny Noonan
Kevin Brooks
Morris Claiborne

Moss doesn't even make the top 10, maybe not the top 20. Did y'all forget Bobby Carpenter? Moss is just name recognition.

Roy Williams was a good player to for about five years, but yea we could have gotten a HOFer.

The one thing that is always missing in these conversations to me is would these players everyone is mentioning as “draft misses” be who they are today if they were drafted by the Cowboys? Would Randy Moss be the greatest WR of all time with an old Troy Aikman and the other mess of QBs that came after? Would Ed Reed be the greatest FS of all time with the switch in defensive schemes that hurt Roy Williams’ career (not to mention Ed being on one of the greatest defenses of all time)? You can go on and on.

TJ Watt and Ed Reed were drafted by superior teams who are known for developing great defensive players. The Cowboys just aren’t known for that. Would TJ Watt be as great as he is under Garrett and his staff? Maybe or maybe not. Would Ed Reed look good under Campo and his staff? Idk. You can make a case with Montana I guess since Laundry was still at the helm then.

Nitpick through each draft and you will find each team misses not just the Cowboys.

Even "back in the day" with Tex and Landry running the show there were plenty of misses.

Mo Claiborne without a doubt.

1. You whiff on the player picked (Claiborne); and

2. You would have taken Bobby Wagner (future HOFer) and Michael Brockers

Of all the first round picks that were on the board when we picked but didn’t take them - in Cowboys history who was our biggest miss?

was it Moss?

Easily Miss, could’ve had Rodgers also....or Brady...

He had that one Thanksgiving game in his rookie season and we all thought “hey, maybe he is just as good”.

And his Seattle game that year was great. 30 carries 198 yards and 3 tds.

Then he had that 159 yard game vs the giants.

So many emotions and cusswords were said that draft day in 2004. Remember watching it with my dad who doesn't really follow the ncaa. Was hyping him on SJ and then we passed on him.

At least it have us two first rounders in 2005 cause iirc Parcells wanted spears at 11

Moss yes but we still got a good player in Ellis. Only reason people didn't like Ellis is because of Moss.

Aaron Rodgers. Quincy Carter was our quarterback when we passed on Rodgers. The big tuna should have been fired for that mistake alone. We passed on Rodgers twice.

Interestingly enough, Parcells was a victim of his own success. If Quincy Carter didn't play like a serviceable QB for a 5 game wining streak in 2003, the Cowboys probably land a top 10 pick in the 2004 draft.

It's highly unlikely that Parcells would have passed on Ben Roethlisberger in that draft who went 11th overall.

I feel like this list could be ENORMOUS.

Terrell Suggs
Troy Polamalu
Joe Staley
Luke Kuechly
Fletcher Cox
I could keep looking at draft classes but there are a ton. Every team in the nfl would have a ton

1983- Drafted Jim Jeffcoat over Dan Marino (though Jeffcoat had a very good career)
1998- Drafted Greg Ellis over Randy Moss
2005- Drafted Marcus Spears over Aaron Rodgers
2009- Traded out of second round; could have drafted LeSean McCoy
2017- Drafted Taco Charlton over T.J. Watt
You could even go to the 1979 draft where we could have drafted Joe Montana who was available in the 3rd round. We took a good TE in round three in Doug Cosbie. And Danny White was already the heir apparent to Roger. I have wondered how things might have been had we drafted “Joe Cool”, who the Cowboys had supposedly rated pretty high.
