We all well aware of strategy Stephen Jones uses with free agency. Never takes part in the first wave and when money starts to run out, the Cowboys get active and try to sign the leftovers for bargain rates.

This strategy has been a major failure recently, but with the cap possibly going down and Dak needing to be resigned, expect a similar off-season.

One thing to keep in mind, they like to cover all needs in some form before the draft, so they can take the best players available.

Free Agent needs in no particular order:

*QB, Swing Tackle, Defensive End, 2 Defensive Tackle, 1-2 Linebackers, 1 Corner, 1 Safety

Swing Tackle-Cam Erving when healthy performed well in spot, start duty. Resign him or a similar player.

Defensive End-team could either try to resign Aldon or sign his replacement. Vernon, Wise, McKinley, Autry, Bowser, Kerrigan, Golden, Fackrell

Defensive Tackle (2)-need a quality veteran starter at both the 1 & 3 Tech's. Ford (R), Suh, Robertson-Harris, Lawerence Guy, DaQuan Jones, Hankins, Wolfe, McCoy

Linebacker-due to Lve's lack of durability, Jaylon's lack of production, moving to the 4-3, need lots of numbers here. Perryman, Williamson, Jarrad Davis

Corner-both Awuzie and Lewis are fa's. One could return and fill the need. Rhodes, Verett, Dennard, Kirpatrick

Safety-Xavier Woods is a fa. Thompson is a release candidate. Just Wilson/Robinson. Could see Woods return on a low level deal. Hooker, Kazee, Gipson

Based on the draft, my most important FA position would be FS. There is a lack of quality centerfield type guys this year, if we can sign a reliable FS we won’t be held hostage in the draft.

Seems like there are some solid 1T options who could come cheap as well. 2 solid vet starters and 3 draft starters/contributors on defense is what I’m hoping for.

Erving is a good player. What he lacks in skill he makes up for in flex and attitude. Keeper.

We most certainly do not need another 3 tech. Hill and Gallimore need PT and we've always intended to have McCoy back. One of your 3s plays 1T in nickel so three is fine. Particularly if we bring A. Smith back (very likely since MM revived his career). We need a starting 1T. Woods is good taking 30% of the snaps there.

Obviously CB and S are big areas. I expect we bring back one of the FAs - Lewis is my guess. I could definitely see a high puck CB and Sherman as FA.

Safety. I'd guess we get Woods back on a light deal but finally prioritize that in the 1st 3 rounds of the draft.

Another move I expect is a decent 3 year for Looney. Yeah, he's a backup but that vet leadership is clearly valued. Biadasz didn't play after recovering from his injury because with Martin out, there was no one leading the line.

-I could see the team moving ahead with Hill/Gallimore at the position. Not sure what McCoy has left at this point. Aldon certainly could return and see some time inside. Think DLaw might also see some reps there in the nickel. Biggest need is at the 0-1 Tech along the DL. Don't see them starting a 1st yr player at the position.

-Biadasz didn't play after Martin went down, cause they didn't want him and McGovern playing together as both were 1st yr players

-Think Dennard will be the veteran corner signed, where both Awuzie/Lewis leave via fa.

-Do think Xavier Woods has the best chance of coming back, due to lack of depth at the position. Really have no other player outside of Wilson. Expect to also see another veteran added with a day 2 or day 3 prospect.

I hope not.

Nothing would scream "we support mediocrity" more. Move on.
I hate the player, but the team really lacks the numbers at the position. Wilson and Robinson who hasn't taken a single snap yet in his career on defense. If they add Hooker or Kazee along with Woods in fa, then one of the good safety prospects, Woods would be more relegated to a sub package player or won't make the final cut.

I'm hoping the ten picks we'll have at our disposal will come as a blessing this year. The veteran free agency should, at best, help us to acquire helpful backups at several positions of backup needs. At least a couple, or maybe a few draftees might be helpful in the long run, as well. There are likely to be changes aplenty, with so many free agents due to be dealt with before the 2021 season gets underway. Let's pray some clear heads serve us well.

There's a surplus of EDGE rushers, so I look to see Dallas sign a vet DE to rotate with DLaw n RG. You could help your team's front 7 in this FA class...decent DTs.

LBs: I remember Jarrad Davis wanted to be a Cowboy so bad, well now he can see if they want him.

Bargain shopping is like music to our ears. Cheap contracts is the #1 criteria for instant fan approval, until the player makes a mistake.

Yes dallas doesn't use fa to improve. Its only to replace jags with jags. Team is still a good 2 years away from being contenders and thats if they change their ways.

I see two years as a best case scenario too. And if Jerry intends on signing Dak and extending Gallup, free agency will be mostly dumpster diving. Head first!

Like the idea, but a decent safety is going to cost a big portion of their cap funds. As you just too many needs to address

In the last 10 years player “want to play for the Cowboys ” for one of 2 reasons: they’re either stupid or they want to be paid to produce very little

I’m hoping this is the year when Jerry is desperate and we have a nee DC who actually prioritizes DT and FS so this combination results in a change and we do something significant in FA

Give me Tomlinson and one of the top 4 FA FSs

then go into the draft with a plan to get 4 players in the first 2 rounds on defense which is very doable in several scenarios where we trade down from 10, use extra picks to trade up or trade Gallup

That would be my plan

When you think about it, resigning Aldon might make sense is the dollars line up. Good #3 DE, could also kick inside at play the 3T.

If Lee/Thomas leave, they have no choice, but to add another starting caliber linebacker.

We are handcuffed by Zeke's contract. Invested way too much in that particular position when we did not have to and it will cost us for the next couple of seasons. So even if we wanted to be big players in FA we dont have that ability.

100% ..... two quality day-one starters vs 10 bargain basement guys whose play will make little or no impact.

It's not even low impact players....

They manage to play guys who are an actual liability out there....and the opponents coaches always find them and exploit it.
