A decision is looming not only with Jaylon and his contract, but Lve and his 5th year option which they have to decide by this May to pick up or not. Think the option gets picks up, cause they have no choice, due to the lack of depth at the position.

Getting back to Jaylon, they may to see if Jaylon plays better in a more simplistic scheme under Dan Quinn and make the decision after next season. They could approach him now and ask to take a pay cut, if he refuses could outright release him. I believe if he becomes a June 1st cut, they can gain 7 million in cap space.

KJ Wright is a linebacker that played under Dan Quinn with the Seahawks. He is a three down player who has the ability to play all 3 linebacker positions. His downside is 32 years old, but still playing at a high level. Knows the system, brings leadership and stabilizes the position. Thoughts?

I would not be surprised if they try to get Wright, if the price is right. Just because he might come cheap and he knows the scheme, but I don't think that's reliant on cutting Smith. They need more LB's period.

They would improve this way simply by getting a linebacker off the field that avoids contact.

I'm not really into the idea of bringing a bunch of ex Quinn dudes in here....

One maybe, but I'm not sure that Wright is that guy.

Wright isn’t coming cheap. His market value sits right around 8-9 million. With a lower cap, I’d be shocked for him to get anything less than 6-7. That’s cheap for most teams .. to Stephen that’s equivalent to Mahomes deal

Jaylon is not getting cut. Fans turned on him real quick as they do with any player. This board needs a whipping boy player to whine about, always.
Went from Heath to Jaylon. Who will be next or will they keep on whining about Jaylon.

And no to Wright, what sense will that make. Lose a young player that looked overweight last year, and pay an aging vet who will want to get paid also. No, you keep Jaylon and see what he does in the new scheme more suited to his play as well as the rest of the defense. Make him get in shape. And if the DL did their job, he would not have looked as he did at times.

I had to laugh, yet again about Jaylon posts. There is another thread about the salary cap. A post suggested to restructure like 7 players contract, but wanted to cut Jaylon, when his could be restructured as well.

perhaps. 32 doesn't help him, IMO. I don't think there's a lot of productive 32+ LB's playing. But I'm guessing, haven't dug into it.

Im a big fan of Wright. Always productive, team leader, super intelligent on film, played in 991 snaps last season.

Wright recorded 82 tackles (56 solo), two sacks, one interception, and tied Jamal Adams with a team-high 11 tackles for loss in 2020. He’s far from washed

far from washed or not, still 32. If the team is interested, they can manipulate a 3 year deal to keep his cap hit down and the 3rd year probably never happens, but allows them to spread out the signing bonus cap hit for the next 2 years. They need a leader in that group, so I would be happy to have him. If Quinn is anything like most coaches, he'd probably campaign for him to get one of his guys on the roster.

Bingo, spot on. Agree 100%.

My biggest issue with Nolan becoming coach was he didn’t have “his guys”. Typical guys that follow coaches and he’ll transition the new scheme. Guys with Parcells like the Ferguson’s, Singletons, Glenn’s etc.

If Quinn can bring a few of his guys Wright, Kazee, Neal etc. it would help the transition go much smoother. We need leaders and Wright is that

He could campaign for Sherman and / or Thomas, and Wright. :muttley:

you do realize all coaches bring in their coaches and players from past teams and staffs, every one of them find it an easier transition to get the layers around them to learn the nuisances of the system much quicker, its a bonus if they can still play..

Bill parcels did this at EVRETY Stop.its common place

Nolan most likely need more of his guys and ex coaches to help..

from reading these post and seeing KJs 2020 stats looks like he would be the new Sean lee in this defense, vet presence good production and just bridge for young guys in Quinns defense,,

BTW i can see both whpos are OTHER :LB right now we have oft injured LVE and possible cut in JS

I say dont be surprised if they try and keep JS and LVE but ADD player like KJ..would be great presence for both our LBS to learn the system and how to be better pro LBS..again bonus KJ can still play and start of needed but snap count to keep him fresh..seems like win win

extra bonus is if JS takes restructure in true pay cut not just movign money around..

He was better than Jaylon in 2020, but I don't know if I would do it if I thought I could even get 2019 Jaylon back. Jaylon's 2018 season was better than anything Wright has put together since the last time Tyron played a full year.

Wright, is not going to come into that lockeroom, watch their work ethic, and be happy. He might become cantekerous like the others.

Cut both Smith and LVE and start from scratch.

Get some young LBs in the draft. Possibly sign the 32 yr old purely for a gap step.
