Veteran Corners Turned Safety

Lots of CBs don’t like to tackle. If you have a CB that does and has good ball skills I think the transition to safety is an easy one. Speed and talent certainly help. The guys you mentioned were great players. PP fits that mold. I think it extends his career 3 years and he slots in right away. The guy is a great athlete.

Woodson was a HOF S. PP just needs to be good. We are talking about replacing X Woods here. PP would be miles better day one.

Based on what? He's done nothing as a corner that translates to being a good safety. He's a great press corner on the boundary when not asked to play shitfier receivers or diagnose. He's not a cerebral player.

Yall are all jumping on this train based on name alone.

Playing safety takes a lot more than a willingness to tackle and ball skills. You need a cerebral player who can diagnose what's happening quickly and then react. Corners who've played predominantly with their back to the QB their entire careers rarely translate well in that regard.

Yes, i agree, they should draft one of the blue chip FS in the draft. Something they have hated to do since forever. But might as well bite the bullet and draft that safety and be done with it. There are at least three or four who will be starting in the NFL come September. And i would not mind if they also got a veteran safety as FA. Peterson would be tempting at the right price. That position is very important in today's passing game.

You watch a lot of Cardinals games, huh? PP is an 8 time Pro Bowler. Guy can fly. Elite speed. Good ball skills. Plus he is a physical corner. He has as good a shot as any to make the transition. We are talking about replacing scrubs here in Dallas.

I agree. We are asking a guy with elite speed to play CF. He has make up speed.

Quinn developed Kazee while in Atlanta from slot corner to free safety, you would think he will be on our radar and we know he can play the position.

First of all, the guy doesn't have elite speed anymore. Not even close. If he was still that dude AZ wouldn't even think of letting him walk. Second of all, if you can't diagnose a play then it doesn't matter how fast you can run because you're probably gonna run the wrong way. PP has never been asked to diagnose. He's been put on an island and spends most of the game with his back to the QB mirroring receivers. He's done absolutely nothing as a corner that translates to safety.

Yeah, you know why they transitioned well? Because that was an era where training was nowhere near where it is now. Nowhere close. Guys would hit a certain age and have to move positions. You rarely see it now because the better CBs can keep playing at CB because they are physically so much more advanced.
 
Seems the great corners with a little size often translate well into safety. Peterson or Sherman may translate well

Prolly not. Most college S's cannot cover at an NFL level.

Honestly.....I was thinking Diggs might make sense.... since was are looking for zone CBs now.....look @ his size.....he's a textbook FS. :popcorn:
 
I could see Sherman making the transition more than Peterson. Peterson has always been a physically gifted talent, I just do not see him putting in the time a a Sherman does who was never an overly gifted talent. Rod and Charles Woodson were students of the game. Sherman appears to be a student of the game. Peterson has always come across as a player that worried about his brand than anything. A very good corner but I just do not see him learning a new scheme and new position.
