As a fan of the Cowboys for 50+ years. I treasure the memories of Tom Landry, Tex Schramm & Jimmy Johnson. They are the reason Jerry has been able to load his bank account the last 25 years without providing fans a winning product. The name Dallas Cowboys is the Amazon of football. No brag...Just facts. The product wins without winning.

So don't expect anything to change in the way the Cowboys FO do business. Why change when you don't have too.

at some point this will stop...they have to start winning and competing for championships...not just the NFCE. most of us fans that are over 50 and remember Landry/Schramm/Johnson will not be around for another 25 years. if Stephen continues to do what Jerry does.....the money/ratings will dry up.

The offense is fine. The skill players on the defense are ok. But we need a do-it-all defensive line. To me, that means bigger DE's and bigger DT's.

As of right now, IMO, our linebackers have no heart and our defensive line is too small. We will get bullied in the run game again this year, if nothing changes.

Why is it no one ever remembers how bad Landry and the Cowboys were the last couple of years? The roster was filled with aging vets and Landry seemed to have lost touch with the modern NFL. Many fans wanted him fired.1982 was the last really good Landry lead team (lost in the NFCC).

1986: 7-9
1987: 7-8
1988: 3-13

Wow how many more of these threads do we need.
Exactly. It's not that I disagree, but the horse has long been dead. Can't we just assume the overwhelming majority of fans realize the front office has been the problem without needing to repeat it for 25 years?

The 83 team was good and they won the division in 85.

The drafts were awful beginning in the late 70s and it caught up.

It was indeed time for him to go when he did though.

They’ve been changing all the time. It just hasn’t worked.

The issue with this team has always been coaching. This team has done well with a strong head coach. When there is a weak head coach Jerry steps on and overrides him and the team falls apart.

I feel your pain. I am a little younger than you. Started my love for the Cowboys in 1977. I was just a little kid but I remember those years fondly. The early 90s to 96/97 was also a great time. That team was mean and nasty. Each year I become a little less interested. I am sure if Dallas was playing in a SB I would be right back into it. I just don’t see that coming. The culture is toxic here and the torch will soon be passed to Stephen who is much worse than Jerry. Cheap and zero charm. It’s going to be rough. Maybe I am wrong. We’ll see. Be well.

83 and 85 were decent but were aging and you knew they were not legit contenders. However 82 was the last really good team with a legit shot at winning the Super Bowl.

IMO after 85 the age of the roster and lack of young talent is the reason they fell off a cliff and the decline was so rapid.

I'm 54, and I am too old to care anymore. Jerry slapped us all in the face for 13 years with Garrett and kicked us in the teeth each time he retained him.
Now he's spit in our face with Dak-who is Garrett 2.0.
It's his team. He can take them to the grave with him if he wants.

After 20 consecutive years of winning. Tom Landry earned time to rebuild the Cowboys and he would have done exactly that. I'm not saying he would have matched Jimmy Johnson's results and it's true that what Jimmy did was fantastic. Even so, Tom Landry deserved better.

It was no secret that Landry was going to draft Troy Aikman. They already had Michael Irvin. Tom Landry was even working on a new defense. Landry had planned on staying two more seasons.

Tom Landry was called old and it was said the game had passed him by.

B.S.!

Half of what we still see today when we watch an NFL game was invented by Tom Landry. He would have changed the game before he let it pass him by.

Tom Landry was fired 6 years after the last time he led them to an NFC championship game.

How old is that hypocrite that calls himself a GM? When was the last time the Cowboy played in an NFC championship game?

Fans under 30 don't remember the Cowboys playing in a Super Bowl. The luster will fade as us older fans pass away.

That's crazy. No cell phones. You could still buy cigarettes from a machine. There were pay phones on the street. I remember that because I once had a midget ask me to put a quarter in the slot for him. Forget SB, Dallas hasn't been to a championship game since then. You would think just dumb luck would have had us there at least once. But Jerry defies the law of averages.
