I can't get excited for another failed head coach who stumbled back into being a defensive coordinator. Just went through that with Marinelli.

Just what I was thinking...Dallas is the place coaches come to have their careers die. They all think they can overcome Jerry's undermining ways, but in the end no one has been able to yet since Jimmy. He is the T.O of owners...

Lets not compare the 2 please. One went 0-16. The other has been to 2 Superbowls. One as a DC which they won, and one as a HC which they would have won if not for a stupid OC who wanted to make a name for himself and got greedy. Some guys arent good HC's. See Wade Phillips.

Just because he failed as a head coach doesn't mean he isn't a good defensive coordinator. Besides, how would one know if they can be a good NFL head coach if they don't become one? I've found several things over the years that I'm just not very good at, like carpentry, but that doesn't mean I'm not a good painter (which by all accounts I am).
Should somebody that wants painting done be "not excited" because I'm going to do painting for them because I can't do carpentry well?

All this is saying is that the defense last year was too overly complicated and that they are expecting a more simplified approach with Quinn and a full offseason will net better results. There is no reason for negativity on this one, it make a lot of sense and we should be hopeful for improvement.
If this defense ends up in the 15-20 range then they will be good enough to compete most weeks and that seems pretty reasonable with 1) full offseaon 2) good draft and 3) better coaching.

Yeah it's also not rocket science that this team having a defense in the 15-20 range will be good enough to compete most weeks for 17 regular season games and nothing else...

He literally has to not have one of the worst defense's of all time and it would be an improvement.
He probably has the easiest job ever this year. If he can get this defense ranked somewhere between 20-25 then it's an improvement and Jerry will probably give him a lifetime contract with Dak money, because Jerry like to be right above anything else.

It must be nice to make a pile of money, have no expectations, be given every pass by the FO and most of the fans, then get a press conference and and emotional goodbye on your way out.

biggest reason wont be all QUINN...it will be PLAYERS!! He needs the right players or the same things will happen. Jerry better understand this. The coaching and success he has will depend on what he is given to cook the meal with. Dont hand the guy the same crap ingredients that already failed and expect a better result. That is stupid.

Anything will be better than Nolan however I would temper the enthusiasm. Have a look at Atlanta’s defensive rankings during DQ’s time as head coach 2015-2020. Not good. Not good at all. He had good defenses in Seattle during 2013 and 2014. That was a special group though. This is typical Dallas crap of over selling coaches to distract and create false hope.

Agreed, but it's better than the train wreck we had last year. I'll take what I can get.
And as the title heading says, Quinn is expected to be the biggest reason for improvement, if the Cowboys go early and often on defense in the draft, we might be able to get to the 10-15 range. Besides, teams have won SBs with defensives ranked in the 15-20 range, and even a couple of times below 20, even a 15 defense isn't automatically doomed to not be able to compete for a SB.
I'll reserve judgment until after the regular season is well underway, it's not like teams haven't dramatically improved their defense in one year before, we'll see...
