1 point for a kickoff through the uprights?

Kickoff through the uprights should place the ball at the 15 instead of the 25. That promotes kicking into the endzone, which means less returns, more player safety and keeps Brett Maher employed. It's a win-win.

Apparently that is a proposed rule change.

Highly doubt that would get approved. I don't like the idea either.

Although a 3 point conversion from the 10 sounds like an interesting idea.

What do you guys think about all these new rule changes being proposed? I can't even keep up with them.

I propose a bounce pass gets you half the yards.

As you can tell, I'm not a fan of either gimmick.

1. Go back to the previous kickoff rules from the 30
2. Remove the 2 point play that encourages FGs.
3. Go back to the normal FG rules.

The last one isn't even one I'm old enough to have watched when it was in effect. I just think it is consistent with what a FG actually is. A kick.

Nah, IMO that would be silly. Maybe one point if you attempt a field goal and it hits the uprights and bounces out?

Must be a change to incentivize touch backs and ultimately improve player safety.

I don't think the kickoff change spot has increased touch backs as much as the league thought it would have. Kickers are trying to kick higher and shorter to force a return and put the return team in a tough spot with a good return.

Just getting rid of the kickoff seems to be the best option. Or maybe have kickoffs happen in the 4th quarter.
touchbacks would skyrocket if Tony Pollard would learn to take a knee instead of bring the ball out to the 20.

All these rule changes over the last 10-15-20 years are because today's players are pansies. Back in the day, a QB had to be as tough as anyone on the field, not some goat in a skirt like Brady. Players would break their arms one week and be back the next week using the cast as a club busting heads.

They should get rid of all the players and make the whole game just a game of HORSE between the kickers.

Don’t like it. Just get rid of the kickoff altogether. It’s lame ** anymore.
*Nope,no way& no how can the N.F.L. simply omit one leg of it's "punt , pass & kick" youth interest promotional triad

If there is a rule that should be implemented, it's that no field goals under a length of 35 yards should be allowed. I mean, you can make a 19 yard kick and get three points, but you have to make a 33 yard kick to get one point? That's stupid as hell.

JG and the Gents will never score again!

How about dusting off that NFL rule book from 50 years ago and following that?
We don't need more rules, We need less.
