And people say the owners are greedy....isn’t this by the NFLPA along with their plan to not have any off season workouts or OTA’s and mini camps in a way greedy....hey don’t go do your job to work out and stay in shape in a supervised manor nor learn in person the playbook and schemes...just show up week 1 and play to collect your overpaid salary.
Yes that is selfish and greedy.
Everyone in sports is greedy
Except the fans

Guaranteed that future contracts being handed out will start including an incentive pay to attend mandatory practices and meetings.
Get in line at the DRs office for your work excuse absence.
If it's mandatory, there is no need for an incentive, it should already be built in the contract.

These workouts are essential for a teams success and cohesion. Last year it essentially hurt us so bad we could never adjust on the fly, especially with all the changes we had on staff and with scheme. It was a season killer for us. This , memo is pure propaganda and being used to CYA for the league/players. These workouts WILL HAPPEN as scheduled.

Players just searching for ways to do less work for the same amount of money. It’s nothing to do with the virus. They think the 2020 off season set a precedent and now they’re gonna fight tooth and nail to not do any more than required.

The league discouraging offseason workout is such a weak move. It's big brother tell the players they are too dumb to work out smart and be responsible. C'mon man, we've been doing this for over a year. We are in recovery mode.

Some players prefer to work out during the Volunteering stage with their on peeps. I can understand but they need to not stop the mandatory secessions and TC. It cant be all virtual they need to split that up to cut back on the injuries.

Gotta love the NFLPA. Always trying to push the envelope on how little player have to do to earn their money.........and god forbid one of them should try to improve on their free time at voluntary workouts.

This isn't about player safety. Thats a fascade. Its about controlling players and gaining leverage to wield against owners. If players were paid for voluntary workouts and the union getting a cut, there would be no issue.

Jeez, I hope such a plan by the Players Association doesn't catch on.
Even if it does, let's hope none of them are Dallas Cowboys!!

I might hack it if we were one of the teams that was well-established.

No its not. The very simple bit of evidence to this is that they JUST made a new CBA so unless your argument is that they are somehow doing this now to gain leverage 8 years from now when they are negotiating again then your premise makes no sense.

This is my problem with the statement.

"Despite having a completely virtual off season last year, the quality of play across the NFL was better than ever by almost every measure"

Not even close to the truth. I don't think I could handle too many more seasons like that. The injuries were also off the charts.
For the Cowboys yes. But for across the league it was the play they wanted.

The viewer interest in the NFL slid a little more last year when they thought they had a captive audience and the ratings would increase. There are several reasons why this is happening and I will suggest the number one is the quality of the game is not what it once was.

When the NFLPA can't get a bigger piece of the pie, they resort to working conditions. These aren't a bunch of coal miners, they need to prepare themselves to play a very demanding sport and they're not doing it enough and we're seeing more injuries because of that.

One of the fundamentals of the game has been slowly disappearing and that's the main reason for the increased scoring. Proper tackling technique is becoming a lost art. I don't jump up at a big hit anymore, I jump up when I see a well executed tackle. And I don't see near enough.

The players back in the day weren't tougher than these guys today, they just weren't as safe. Back then, a player makes a sloppy attempt at a tackle, he's on the sideline and often sitting next to his position coach. Today, they have to leave them in because behind that guy, they got little.

Benching players, the real power of the HC and one Landry, Noll, Lombardi, Grant, Shula and Jimmy Johnson used as motivational tools for their best players is gone. These players know who's behind them on the depth chart and just how much of a threat they aren't. Jimmy Johnson was flat out anal about having backups to apply pressure. That's why those teams in the early 90's were so good. Great players, great depth and few players, including the 1st pick in the draft QB, feeling too safe in their job.

Not a good look, a bunch of millionaire players not showing up. And voluntary doesn't mean squat to fans. At least give us the illusion that they care as much about the team and the game as we do.
