Quinn's response in the press conference when asked about 4-3 or 3-4.

Base will look more like a 3-4, that would be consistent with the Cowboys last year or my time in Atlanta.

Nickel is 60% to 70% in the league, and the Cowboys will be 4 down DL in Nickel.

Please stop spreading lies!
Just watch the game and you know it was 4-3 mostly in nickel package.

I’m really curious to see what this defense is going to look like.
Quinn’s base D at 65+ % of the time is nickel...2 LB’s

Quinn further insisted that he intends to play Neal as a WIL. So now we have Jaylon, LVE, Neal, Parsons, and Cox for the only 2 LB spots that will be on the field most of the time. Not saying depth is a bad thing, but it’s going to be real interesting to see who is spending a lot of time on the bench.

D Line is a bit confusing as well. Seems as though Quinn is going to go with the oversized strong side DE. My guess at who ends up on the roster-

SDE- Osa, Urban, Golston
1 Tech- Woods, Bohannon
3 Tech- Gallimore, Hill, Osa
WDE- Lawrence, Gregory, Basham

The secondary seems pretty straight forward...as long as Kazee is healthy and capable

I watched the whole presser and just soaked it in. I love this guy, he's intense and just focuses on people like a Pitbull. And he plans to use all our linebackers as well as Neal at linebacker so I'm perfectly ok with the 3-4 around 30% of the time. He'll utilize their individual talents, so Jaylon should become an actual weapon instead of a liability. I believe they made a great hire in Quinn.

I think it's a bad idea to say anything about this defense is going to resemble "my time in Atlanta." That's not going to sit well with most fans. Of course, if you really examine his time in Atlanta, his defense did some pretty good things his first couple of years. Sure, it blew the lead in the Super Bowl, but it also helped the team get there.

Call me crazy but I still have hope Jaylon can look more like 2018 if we find a way to maximize his skills. I don't believe we will ever justify his contract, but at least we appear to be making an attempt to put him in a position to succeed.

He was just answering the question about 3-4 vs 4-3.

I really liked his press conference.

Lawrence is not a WDE. He's the starter on the strong side.

Perhaps Lawrence will continue to play on the right side out of preference, but:

Lawrence is our best pass rusher
Gregory isn’t an every down player

Will they both be on the field with Lawrence at SDE plenty? Of course. But I think Gregory is a pass rush specialist and Quinn will want a big (bigger than Lawrence) SDE in base. People forget that 330 pound Red Bryant started at SDE for the Legion of Boom Super Bowl run in 2014.

Doesn't have to be a lie. For most of that SB they were expecting pass because the Broncos couldn't run the ball.

That’s what he said.

we will play a 4-3 60-70% of the time

it kinda cracks me up how many of us still cling to outdated notions about defensive philosophy

This isn’t the 80s anymore where you either played 3-4 or 4-4 on 1st and 2nd down and then brought in extra DBs on third

alignments are changed down to down based on down and distance and the words “base defense” doesn’t mean what it used to mean

I did too. He seemed really comfortable and confident. I think the defense players will respond to him

Not you specifically, but everyone talks about Gregory's inability to play the run. He was actually the second highest graded run defender on the team. I think as he matures and fills out his frame he will be a very good run defender and be on the field more than people expect. I'm not sure, but I think a lot of people expect him to be worse than he is because he's not that big.

I'm actually cautiously excited to watch him grow as a player. He was such a great prospect. It gets lost how good he can be, due to his personal problems.

Well, we should see the best of both LVE and Jaylon, because the writing is on the wall.
