The joseph pick saved it for me. I actually cheered when they announced the pick

I cheered when we got both Parsons and Joseph! I cheered also when we got Cox. Golston I liked a lot. OO (Or, as I call him OWO for a furry reference), was good, and I cheered when we got Mukuamu.

The problem I see with this FOs approach to the draft is this: it seems to me like they just “draft good players” based on what’s available, rather than having a strong plan, philosophy of what they are looking for and stick to that plan over multiple years. To these guys, it’s a year to year thing, depending on who’s HC or DC.

The Jones boys draft like fantasy football owners. Just get some good players. That’s a very difficult approach to win a championship with.

So, you don't like BPA - Best Player Available as a draft strategy? All coaches try to design a system maximizing the players talents. Coaches don't want to force players into a system but want to change/tweak the system to fit the players.

McCarthy hand-picked Nolan and agreed to try a defensive make-over at the wrong time. That is on McCarthy, not on the front office. The front office gave McCarthy cart blanc. McCarthy needs to make the right choice this year or he should be fired.

Jaelen Phillips.

The one thing that would make me like Parsons a little more is if he can put his hand in the dirt and do something off the edge.
The way they’re talking about Parsons, they’re going to use him some at LEO and/or SAM to get after the QB. I actually said back in February that I’d want them to draft Parsons if they would use him aggressively to go after the QB a lot because that’s one of the things he does best. He’s a natural pass rusher.

McCarthy said they plan on using him on the ball (LEO/SAM) and off the ball (reg LB), and plan on him pass rushing a lot. He actually said after they drafted Parsons on Thursday night, him and Quinn got to work on Friday, sat down and put together a plan on how to use Parsons because he can do so many things and is so good on pass rush.

That takes me from saying that Parsons is the most talented defensive player in the draft, I hope they use him right to being extremely excited about how Quinn is going to deploy Micha.

He moves more like a 245 pound cornerback than a LB. His athleticism is ridiculous and he can be on top of a QB in about 1 second. He can be a real weapon if they use him like they say they will.

Speaking for myself, that makes this pick way preferable to a CB… especially considering Joseph, who I think is going to be a very good corner. He’s a pretty ridiculous athlete himself and neither he nor Micha are going to put up with any **** out there.

So yeah, I’d much rather have Parsons/Joseph than Horn/Bolton… and that’s without even factoring in Gholston, who I think I like more than most people here. I love Iowa players. They are tough, hard nosed players that usually perform well in the league.

Agree with everything posted. Don’t think it’s close, Bolton might be a 2 down lb. I also like Golston, think he takes Armstrong spot on the roster.

If I gave you 2 options before the draft which would you take.

Option A: Jaycee Horn and Nick Bolton
OR
Option B: Micah Parsons, Kelvin Joseph, and picked up an extra 3rd Chauncey Golston
Tough one.

Im high on Horn, but I think Bolton could he a missed tackle machine in the NFL. Impact play guy, but he missed 16% of his tackles last year, and short arms means it probably wont get better innthe pros

On other side, skill wise Joseph is a top 20 pick caliber player. But I think Golston was poor use of that pick. Ive seen people here compare Osa to Crawford and that very lazy IMO. I think Golston is way more Crawford like, and Id rather get that dude a round later.

All in all I have to go with B, even though I would favore Horn to Parsons

the general criticism that the FO is winging it seems odd to me. One thing that sticks out is they had specific ideas of traits they were looking for? I dont get it. Such as long DB's.

You are spot on golston is crawford 2.0 which is fine as long as they dont start him or pay him $9m a year

You need some guys like that on your line. Guys that play hard and are a little versatile.

He's better than Armstrong, who I am almost certain inserts himself into games when no one is looking. And by the time anyone has figured, the game is over and we lost

For the record Crawford wasn’t bad initially. He was actually solid. I’d take another Crawford of 5 years ago.
