it won't change anything. Only a matter of time before someone says something like

"it doesn't matter what the salary cap is, anything over 10 mil a year for Dak is still taking up to much money that we could use to extend Damontae Kazee after his upcoming all-pro year"

People may not like Dak, but you can't scream cap hit until it happens. If you look how the contract is structured, Dak won't be a significant cap hit for the next two years. They haven't worked it yet, but he'll be an 18 mil. cap hit in 2022. We know this because of the 6th year in his contract. I'm not going to explain. Then his cap hit spikes. It spikes unless they extend him again. Then the cap itself will spike as a result of the TV deals. If that happens, there's a chance Dak's cap hit won't be a problem for the foreseeable future.

It's ok if you don't like Dak as a QB. But hold off on his team crippling cap hit until it happens. We're not there yet.

If we are really 19 million in the hole at 208M that is alarming. But the one thing it would guarantee is that Jaylon is 100% gone. That would get it down to 6 million over right there. A perfectly workable number. We could move on from Tyrone as well. That would be another 12 million.

It’s a projection. Your doing the right thing to take it with a grain of salt. If aliens invade Earth next week and enslaves the human race then of course the projection will be wrong.
They'd recognize Jerry as one of their own and immediately uncap the league.

This is interesting. I wonder if this 2022 increase is due solely to monies being paid initially? I'm too old to truly understand the significance of streaming to the league. Will there actually be more viewers or just more companies streaming the games? I can't wait to get more thorough information.

If we hold onto Dak long enough, one has to think he might give us the Brady discount in an attempt to win a title as he gets older.

With the new TV contract going into effect soon, in 2023? And expectations of full stadiums. The added game. And the 2nd year of the extra playoffs teams and with full attendance for those also. I think the cap could jump more than $208 million. So I guess they want to be sure it doesn’t get too far out of hand and even higher pay wanted by players and agents. So they want to cap it for now.

If nothing happened, and things were normal, based on the cap hikes since 2015, we'd have roughly a 208-210 million dollar cap for 2022. I think that's where they get the ceiling being 208 mil. But does the league still owe money to the cap? I think they do. I don't think they took it all back at once and are borrowing from future caps. My best guess is next year somewhere around 200 million.

He might not even have to. If the cap spikes due to the TV deals it won't matter. If Jerry did nothing else right, his timing and the way he structured his contract was very well thought out.

If Dak doesnt give us a deal then his next contract will continue to go up just like the salary cap.

I believe he has more years left. 2 or 3 I think. Tank we would have to replace so that one is an issue. Losing Zeke and Jaylon and their contracts would actually improve the team.

Cooper is a different argument.

He has years left, yes. That doesn't mean he'll play them. He can be released after 2021 and it would save around 8-9 mil. on the cap. I think his play this year will determine that.

That would be some nice flexibility. I thought someone else posted something saying we cant get out for a few years or it kills us.

It would be nice if he did it. To some extent at least. What Brady is doing now is off the charts ridiculous. The dude wants to win. His cap hit is 10 mil. for 2021. He's stacking the deck in his favor. Tampa is probably going to the super bowl again. Whether they win or not is anybody's guess. I don't even think they peaked yet.

In 2022 he's a 27 million dollar cap hit. A 19 million hit if Dallas releases him. I'm thinking he's going to at least need to earn that in 2021.

Also note that by the time Dak's cap hit really increases the Cowboys could (or should) be free of the DeMarcus Lawrence, Jaylon Smith, and even Ezekiel Elliott deals that are gobbling up space. Dallas will really be in excellent shape then and given the way QB deals escalate every year, he may even be seen as (gulp) a bargain.

A lot of questions will be answered this season. The new TV contracts just like the old ones have ratings parameters. And also stadium attendance will factor in as well.
This is all a guess at this time.

Variety released their list of the 100 most viewed tv shows and highest rated shows for last year. The top 5 is all NFL.

Yeah, but you have to consider those contracts will be replaced by others. Like CD Lamb. Maybe Gallup, and who knows who else?

That’s great news
And I suspect it gets back on track to soaring again
Adding a game means more revenue and they have lots of other revenue sources that will go up
Adding fans back in the seats generates more revenue than any other means.

As much as I like this news I would take it with a grain of salt.. Maybe a whole pillar of salt. This is way premature of them. What if the new variant of Covid shuts things down again? What if 200,000 more people die of that damn disease this summer after most everybody opens up? I am far more inclined to wait and see reality before I accept this as gospel.
Sounds like a great time for a BBQ
