https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/05/26/salary-cap-ceiling-for-2022-set-at-208-2-million/

The NFL salary cap dropped to $182.5 million for the 2021 season as a result of revenue shortfalls related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 season, but it is expected to go back up during the 2022 season.

It will be some time before we learn exactly how much the cap will go up, but we learned on Wednesday what kind of parameters the league will be operating under as it heads toward that declaration.

According to multiple reports, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed to set a ceiling of $208.2 million. If the cap were to get that high, it would represent a 14 percent increase over the 2021 season.

It would also represent a new high for the salary cap in NFL history. The 2019 season was played with a cap of $198.2 million, which would mark a jump of about eight percent and a significant reversal of what teams had to deal with this year.

it won't change anything. Only a matter of time before someone says something like

"it doesn't matter what the salary cap is, anything over 10 mil a year for Dak is still taking up to much money that we could use to extend Damontae Kazee after his upcoming all-pro year"
Oh yeah, bank on it. Plus some other meaningless drivel.

With the new TV contract going into effect soon, in 2023? And expectations of full stadiums. The added game. And the 2nd year of the extra playoffs teams and with full attendance for those also. I think the cap could jump more than $208 million. So I guess they want to be sure it doesn’t get too far out of hand and even higher pay wanted by players and agents. So they want to cap it for now.

It won't, hence 208 being the ceiling.

Remember, they borrowed against future caps to get the cap number to what it was for this year.

This Josh Alper who wrote this article missed the wording of have agreed to set a ceiling of $208.2 million. They could have said they agreed to 250 mil cap amount providing the actual amount of revenue support that. Alper admitted that it going to be some time before the NFL knows what the actual amount will be, so this is nothing but a guess. If this was a real actual amount the league that is looking for any and all good news would have made an announcement of this.

Someone forgot to tell Dan Graziano from ESPN that the report was wrong.

As much as I like this news I would take it with a grain of salt.. Maybe a whole pillar of salt. This is way premature of them. What if the new variant of Covid shuts things down again? What if 200,000 more people die of that damn disease this summer after most everybody opens up? I am far more inclined to wait and see reality before I accept this as gospel.

It's nothing that they don't do every year, it's a projection of the new deals already signed and expected revenue. So nothing new from other years.
