Patriots Young QB Linked to Cowboys in Trade Proposal

The New England Patriots are going to have to do something with Jarrett Stidham. He has underachieved since the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

At 24 years old, he should coming into his own as a starting quarterback, not battling Brian Hoyer, rookie first-round pick Mac Jones and Cam Newton for the starting job in New England, let alone a roster spot.

Stidham will begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, which isn’t a permanent thing, but it just might be the first step before a final decision is made on his future with the Patriots.

Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald fired up a potential trade the Patriots could make with the Dallas Cowboys to give Stidham a fresh start, and New England a young wide receiver.

Trade Proposal: Stidham to the Dallas Cowboys for WR Cedrick Wilson
It doesn’t appear as though the Patriots are going to keep 4 quarterbacks on the roster in 2021, and most see Stidham as the most likely to be traded or released.

I would hate that trade to me he's no better than our fourth string quarterback so I would hate that trade lol

I would do a straight up trade "bad for bad". We would take their useless QB if they would take a certain LB who can't run or tackle and his contract. That's a done deal for me!

ok, I would pay an 8th round pick for him and bring him to camp to compete for a back up job

You just said he should be coming into his own as a starting QB, not battling someone else. How is coming to Dallas going to resolve that?

If we keep 6
  • 3 are obvious locks (Coop, Lamb, Gallup)

For the final 3 spots, that leaves
  • Noah Brown....solid backup WR but big value in ST. Fassell loves him
  • Simi Fehoko...rookie, cheap, huge blazer who they used a 5th on, can play on return and coverage teams. Suspect he makes it
  • Cedrick Wilson...very solid WR who can return kicks if needed. Leader in the clubhouse at this stage
  • Malik Turner.... has looked great in every single practice so far.
  • Osirus Mitchell...UDFA rookie
  • Brandon Smith...UDFA rookie has looked good (practice squad?)
  • TJ Vasher...UDFA..6'5 and decent skills
  • Brennen Eagles...UDFA rookie, cheap, former UT....not sure how he's ding
  • Johnnie Dixon....4.4 forty, former Ohio St....not sure how he's doing

A Day in the Life of a sports budget meeting at a newspaper:

"Hey, we need to generate some more clicks and with Brady not in New England anymore we're losing eyes."

"Anyone got and ideas?"

"Pats aren't going to carry four quarterbacks now that Mac Jones is here. And that Alabama-Auburn mix on the team won't work."

"So what are you suggesting?"

"Well, I talked to my "sources," and they tell me Stidham is on the trading blocks."

"To which team?"

"Cincinnati needs a back up."

"Cincy? Not sexy enough."

"Well, if we're going by the rumor mill, Dallas has too many receivers and looking to peddle one."

"Did you say, Dallas as in COWBOYS?!?!?"

"Yes, Dallas has this back up receiver name Cedri ..."

"Dallas is all I needed to hear. Run it!"

I would only do that trade if NE added the missing tape of Kraft in the "massage" parlor to the deal.

So a Boston sportswriter comes up with a trade that favors New England?

Color me shocked.

I can do the same thing too. I think we should trade Wilson and Cannady for Gilmore.

You are far undervaluing Wilson and Canady. Make them throw in Brady, too (and yes, I know he plays for Tampa).

So they say:

.....why in the hell would we trade for him then?

If we actually want him I would wait for him to hit the street, and have him a week 2 pick up if the guys we have crap the bed in camp and practices.

To go down this route and pick him off PUP is assinine.

Thinking out loud, I agree.

But the reality is Coop is a proven #1 in this league. Gallup has potential (yes he can become a 1 possibly. But he also could be the next Alvin Harper)

Here's hoping he stays healthy enough to earn that lofty ranking.
