Dallas Cowboys: The best replacement for Michael Gallup is...

In Week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Dallas Cowboys saw their biggest offensive advantage take a shot to the gut when receiver Michael Gallup fell to injury. Gallup, the third piece in what is arguably the NFL’s best WR trio, is expected to be out for the next 3-5 weeks, leaving a hole in the Cowboys line-up and Kellen Moore searching for answers.

Cedrick Wilson, the Dallas Cowboys highly paid WR4, is the obvious solution. He came in for Gallup on Thursday night, and performed admirably in Gallup’s stead. But “next man up” may not be the best solution. The best solution may require a more nuanced approach.

The Dallas Cowboys should replace Michael Gallup with a combination of Blake Jarwin and Cedrick Wilson.
Simply plugging Wilson into Gallup’s top-3 role may be the easiest solution, but it’s not the most optimal.

in all honesty i want Brown...his receiving skills have improved more than anyone on team last few years and he can block like a tank....just my lowly opinion but most likely i will be 6th round pick from Boise

in 2018...forget his name but he is no slouch and has several more receiving TD's than Brown

its been what, 5 years....we are still waiting for him to break out...at some point, he is what he is..... I think Wilson is more explosive. and Jarwin can be the pass catcher....Noah can be used in run blocking actually since he is very good at it...I said it in another post, I wish it was him instead of Jarwin on that play at the 2 against tampa. he wouldn't whiff like Jarwin did.

man that jarwin miss lost us game....Zeke not going deeper on crossing route lost us game....Zureline not hitting chip shot lost us game....refs not calling OPI and helmet yanking off bucs player cost us game

putting Brown on bucs receiver brown one on one cost us game....Ceedee lamb dropping 2 passes in a row may truly had cost us game....any one of these not done or done correctly and we be 1-0....very possibly

Wrong..

Noah Brown is the guy and I bet that is how it will eventually play out.

Watch out for a Noah Brown breakout at some point over this next month.

We have a wide variety of guys to take Gallup's spot as the 5th with Cooper, Lamb, Zeke, and Jarwin.

In clear passing downs, play Wilson.
Otherwise, Pollard/Brown/Schultz all give better run/pass balance than Gallup. Best case scenario with Gallup is trading him to a team with a similarly situated DT.

....everybody else.

I'm sure the other four receivers, two TE's and two RB's can absorb Gallup's average 3.5 receptions per game.

If you say so
Wouldn't it seem as though the Cowboys say so?

They have no plans to sign him during the season. The starters you see next game could be the starters you see next season so perhaps this is a good time to evaluate the other receivers. In any case the Cowboys are going to lose at least one starting receiver next season.

Why go with Bown? He has never amounted to anything all these years. If they want a redzone threat just sign Dez Bryant?

Just make him jump for the ball in the redzone and score TDs. At least his a proven commodity rather than Brown.

I fully expect Wilson to get every possible chance, if only because he’s from BSU and Kellen is calling plays.

Doubt it’s red zone ability that is missed most. It’s the quick escape factor for Dak. Dez doesn’t fit that mold.

as I call it, we are good at pulling defeat from jaws of victory...we don't rise to the occasion, we sink to it....at some point this team has to learn to make plays that become the difference in winning vs. losing. having the sense of urgency at the moment, understanding that at the play at 5:34 mark of third quarter is a big moment in the game and have the focus to do it right....we just don't have that. the team outside of a few has a very casual attitude and are ok with losing as if they expect it.....its become engrained in the culture and even if a few have the urgency and drive and attitude, its not enough....

I would expect to see Moore use different packages within the offense. In certain situation having Jarwin in there or Brown is something I think we will see, also think primary backup will be Wilson.

I'm fine with either Wilson or Brown. It appeared Wilson was the guy the Cowboys have in mind, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Brown see some of those snaps as well
I think both will get snaps and we do some double TE sets
We can run on chargers so I expect much more run plays called
Wilson to me is much better at slot
He quick, has good speed and is really good in open field

I would replace him by a committee and use players based on situation. You could use Wilson to stretch the field, Brown in the redzone and both TEs in other situations. If someone gets hot in the time frame, ride that player till Gallup returns.
