I don't subscribe in sitting our LT for one second. If surgery couldn't repair the issue then sitting one game or 2 weeks with the bye is only going to prolong it and we'll have to deal with it somewhere down the road. Fingers crossed that this is only temporary. In fact I might think about putting him on IR so we can have him for playoffs...if we can make it to the "tournament"...

Monday, McCarthy said it's unlikely that any IR player will be activated for Sunday's game at New England. But with Joseph and McKeon back to practice, it's possible both could be ready for game action right after the bye. The Cowboys are off next week and play at Minnesota on Oct. 31.

The neck is always going to be a liability. For the average person his (Smith's) repair could last a lifetime. But for a 300 pounder crashing into other 300 pounders while being contorted into all kind of positions there is a plausible risk for reinjury or injury to a different level of the vertebral column.
So Tyron probably had a fusion done on a certain level of his cervical spine. That reestablishes spacing between the vertebrae allowing the nerves which exit at that level to not undergo compression (which results in pain and loss of muscle function). Well,sure, you've fixed that level but because it is fused together making it non-flexible and essentially one solid bone bridging the vertebrae the next level of vertebrae will have extra torque/pressures on it. It's a rob from Peter to pay Paul scenario.
