In college they are great comps, post injury smith thats a different story..JS was great colleges player very much the same, so the comps were valid AS college prospects..
Smith doesnt have the instincts that Parsons has. Never has

yes he did he was that guy in college..sorry but you are poisoned by the way JS played in the nfl..its ok i get it but he was a top 10 foirst round guy if he didn't sustain that injury which btw happened because he didn't opt out of anything and played meaningless game for his team and he paid dearly for it..its his story that many players skip bowl games now even opt out of some end of season games if the season all but over..

I am really amazed that so many of us.... well, let's be honest... me... were kind of mediocre on the Parsons pick. He fit the category of "solid draft pick" "sensible draft pick" "high floor kind of guy" You know, kind of like... we'll its our duty to fill the LB spot... so let's find a guy.

He was removed from football for one year, which cast his intensity of the game in doubt.
He was a linebacker, which Dallas has a philosophy against picking high or investing much money at the position.

So many things made Parsons seem like a routine pick... other positions of need were unfilled because other teams grabbed the players that had the flash.

And all of that was so wrong... You look at the Falcons game, where he blows up a double team, getting one pancake block on a guard, and nearly sending the other OL guy to the ground, and makes the TFL on the running back.

He uses his 4.3 speed to embarass the right tackle and explode on the quarterback. Ya remember those sports science episodes? I'd bet his mass and velocity combination is near the top... 240 lbs at 4.39 speed? Vicious... lets be honest, there was a bit of luck in drafting Parsons, especially since we traded down to get him. His redraft would be top 5, easy, and some teams might look at him as a #1 overall in a few years.

So glad that he's a Dallas Cowboy.
Nah. I had it nailed and wanted to trade up for him.

The 2020 and 2021 drafts were outstanding. Philly and the other really helped the Cowboys out bigtime.

The only concern with him was the off field stuff but other than that he was a steal at 12. A bit of a prodigy as a football player, he was offered a scholarship by Penn State after playing only a few games in high school. He reminds me a little of LeBron James who skipped college altogether to play in the NBA.

The thing that impresses me with Parsons is his intelligence. He plays chess regularly, and he says he has a photographic memory, whether or not that is true who knows.

I wasn't even in that thread, and I chose not to be vocal that Micah Parsons was good, but not a great pick that week. Here are my comments from one thread. I take it all back, Osa!!!!

Parsons... measurables, exceptionally good, 40 yard dash of a CB 4.39 with prototype LB size. Instincts, average, off the field, mild question mark. Tape is impressive, but show his room to grow when diagnosing plays. Production #32 with 109 tackles in 2019. #1 guy had 181 tackles, #48 guy had 103 that year. One year removed from football. Wrestler, hand fighting is good.

Above Average Floor and High Ceiling. Brought an extra pick in the 3rd round, Good value

Kelvin Joseph, measurables, prototypical CB at 6-1, 192. 40 yard dash exceptionally good at 4.34. Instincts and talent seem above average, and matches well against top talent. Coachability question marks. Off the the field, question mark, is he dedicated to football enough? Production is average with 4 picks and 1 PD in the past year, but against top talent, he shines. In 2020, the INT leader had 6, he was tied with many others who shared 4 picks.

Below Avg Floor, High Ceiling Good value pick.

Osa Odighizuwa Measurables, average for an Edge guy.. On tape, high motor, high effort, but one year removed from football. A single year of production to base a draft choice off of.

Average Floor, Above Average Ceiling. Questionable value pick .

Chauncey Golston, Measurables, Above average height for an Edge guy. On tape, high motor, another wrestler with hand fighting moves. Played 8 games in 2020, had a pick.

Average Floor, Above Average Ceiling. Moderate value pick.

Nahshon Wright. Measurables are exceptional for a height of 6'4" . 40 time is average, production is average. Competition he faced is questionable. Must have been picked for potential, not what he is right now. Tape is baffling, he's not even the star in his own highlights.

Below Average Floor, rare shot at a High Ceiling... maybe above average Ceiling? Far below expected value in the 3rd. So many others at all positions made more sense. This pick is overthinking things, imagining a player to fit expectations but ignoring all evidence to the contrary. Robinson last year was the same thing, probably better, but at least he wasn't in the 3rd. Haven't heard from Robinson, so they both can fight over who doesn't match up to unrealistic expectations.

Please don't count me in there. I was pro-Micah from the very beginning. He was rated as the best D player in the draft for months. Many here were afraid of drafting a LB in the first, even the best D player in the draft.
I honestly don't get how everyone wasn't excited as all hades. How did anyone underrate this cat? All the signs were there for him to be what he is.

Taking a year off of football doesn't make an organization question his dedication to the game? I can see why, especially for a first round draft pick, most would raise an eyebrow, letting him fall. I'm glad he's a Cowboy now...

He didn't take a year off. His conference cancelled the season. So, he took money, getting ready for the NFL. Then they changed their mind and had a season. However, since he'd already taken money and couldn't pay it back, he wasn't allowed to play.

His dedication was never questioned.

Oh... you know what, I didn't know that part of the story.... good to know.

I was meh on Parsons. To be honest I was pulling for Slater as our pick came up. I was okay with the pick but was concerned about the "character issues", him not playing last year and not wanting a LBer as our first rounder. Well I was wrong on draft day about all of it and pumped he's here. His play has been phenomenal. His behavior has been above reproach and he's the catalyst of the defensive culture change.

Arguably the best thing to happen to this team in a long time. I'm ecstatic about him. Generational talent.
Same here. I figured it was time to draft Smiths replacement and Slater was the man for the job. But... i am pretty ecstatic about Parsons. He's not even as good as he's going to be yet... thats CRAZY!

Right... I know that Lawrence Taylor was amazing with the Giants, but would he near-pancake 2 offensive lineman on his way for a sack or TFL? I don't remember that... if he really ever did that! The point is, we are seeing something really rare with Parsons.

He pancaked the center and threw the guard off balance to the point that the guard ended up pancaked as well.

Love the kid! Glad he is wearing a star.

He has definitely made some plays that LT made. But please.....pretty please....let's not toss around "I've seen him do some things that I'm not sure LT ever did"

I can't think of LT busting through a double team of 2 offensive lineman, pancaking one of them, then causing a TFL like that. Do you recall it ever happening?
