Parsons was the right pick, but we need to invest in Tyron’s replacement

….we need to invest in Tyron’s replacement in the worst way. I am hoping that Ball turns out to be the next big thing.

The OL looked like a dumpster fire today. KC’s defense hasn’t been all that great this season and we made them look like the 85 Bears defense today.

We are going to go as the OL goes unfortunately. So we better hope that we manage Tyron so he is ready for the playoffs, even if it means we have to lose a few games between now and then. If Tyron is out when the playoffs start it could be a really early exit for us.

The oline has been the strength of the team.

I missed the game. What happened? I'm guessing the move to McGovern didn't go well. And Steele beside him at LT? Biadasz facing some extra powerful DT?

Unless the Cowboys hear doom and tragic evaluation news from their own medical staff/trainers, they will be content on squeezing out as much juice as they can
on that Tyron contract.

- Maybe In their eyes, they may still think as long as Tyron can be physically in a game, he will deliver top performance.

Unless there’s a medical issues that forces him retire or he becomes Chaz Green 2.0 because he simply cannot move at all anymore,
Tyron Smith is still gonna be with this team- and still starting- even though he’s gonna still miss his share of games. Could be 3 games, could be remaining season.

What’s gonna probably happen in regards to the Tyron plan, is the team will seek the best sub injury replacement for him.
Be it a Josh Ball, .just like Terrence Steele ,Nyseke,a Cam Irvin ......a Brandon Knight, Cam Fleming etc.
and yeh , It’s either gonna be another bargain FA vet ..or a mid rd. draft pick that they can develop up.

- What’s ailing us more so, ..we cannot effectively run the ball,.. but opposing teams with some kinda decent-serviceable can gain 100 rush yards on us ..

Unfortunately we will probably have to lose alot more games or trade a decent amount of capital to move. LT is real dicey outside the top 15.

However I will say considering we have had two strong drafts back to back, I think we could afford to be aggressive in a trade up to get a legit LT if a guy like Slater is available at the same draft spot. Our OL just seems to fall apart without a stud on the weakside

I disagree, about needing his replacement as he is still elite when he plays. An elite tackle playing 12 games a year, is far better then player a worse player 16 games. He also is on a cap friendly contract.

Remember we had a 9th overall pick and Tyron Smith was an underaged and undersized prospect at the time but was the 1st tackle off the board that year.

1 of the best picks this franchise has ever made and won’t be easy to replace.

We needed both Parsons and Slater. I would have mortgage the rest of this year's draft just to get those two players!!

You got that right. Tyron is a great, but not when he is sitting on the bench, or better said, laying on the medical table. I've supported moving on from him since last spring, need to get a decent trade while some other team thinks he has something left in the tank. Now, if he starts Thursday and plays the rest of the season and through the playoffs to the NFC championship game, I might think about keeping him. Either way, his replacement should be on the books now.

Almost everyone on the line struggled. Even Martin looked human.

Too many moving pieces. Too little experience, too little recent experience.

And Cooper was out. He's the only speed at wide receiver. Besides Dak, he's the guy who makes the offense go. He is our only receiver who backs DBs off the LOS.

Poor pass protection and no Cooper allows defenses the crowd the line of scrimmage and not get hurt. Shuts down our run game and our pass game.

Collins & Smith have been out in the last 2 years.
We have lucked out on Steele, who has turned into an adequate starting right tackle. With more time on task, he should become an adequate left tackle as well. He is our swing tackle for the next few years.
I don't see us investing a top pick in a premier left tackle while Smith can still play and we have an adequate backup.
Maybe if McGovern doesn't look good this year, conceivably we draft a left tackle high next year and put him at left guard while he develops.

The Cowboys desperately needed Parsons. He was the perfect pick. OT, DT and DE should now be targeted with vigor.

My only disappointment with the draft class was the injury to Josh Ball.

He looked like a legit LT prospect as a redshirt freshman at Florida State.

He would have been 2nd or 1st round pick if he had stayed at Florida State.

Obviously character is a huge question mark but the talent is obvious.

He played with a nasty demeanor that has been missing from the Cowboys OL since Erik Williams retired.
- (With the exception of those 7 great games by a Cowboys OT in 2014...)

Could Josh Ball be that guy?

  • Josh Ball
    • He has the talent but unfortunately they won't get to see him in a game before the next draft.
    • Josh Ball was a better prospect in 2017 as a redshirt freshman than Terence Steele was as a Senior in 2020.
    • Probably not a good idea to change draft plans based on a player that has not even played a snap in the NFL.
  • Collins & Tyron
    • They're not going to pay a 10M base salary to Collins and 13.5M base to Tyron in 2022 with Steele ready to replace Collins.
  • Collins & Steele
    • Steele and Collins are RT only, IMO.
  • Steele
    • At RT Steele looks like a guy that was a 1st or 2nd round pick.
    • At LT he looks like a guy that wouldn't even get signed as a UDFA.

I think Collins needs to step it up big the rest of the year. Personally, I don't trust the guy and feel like he's just in for the big check.I hope he proves me wrong.
