It looks to me like that’s what it came down to based on the salary cap. The Cowboys had to choose between keeping Cooper or the combination of Gallup and Schultz. Clearly we see what Dallas chose, what would your preference have been?

I definitely would have kept Cooper.

Gallup and Schultz. I do not like they tagged Schultz, but if they can find a TE in the draft (Ruckert) then they can let Schultz go in FA next season if he does not prove he really is worth a big contract.
I wished somehow they could have kept Cooper, but his production has not been what I feel a top WR should have been.
He did not take over, or show up consistently in games when he was really needed.

Hilarious.. Schulz puts up 8 TDs and he's a middle of the pack TE. Cooper does it and he's a superstar. Career high by the way. It's not like he was slumming it.

I'll take a Gallup and Schultz, it's true you may be able to find Gallup and Schultz talents in the draft but they weren't who they are now as far as production goes when they were rookies, I think some are forgetting that fact.

Wilson and Schultz. I expect nothing from this team this season regardless of who we have at WR, but Wilson down the road would have been important.

Cooper had to go, he was no longer a fan of the QB. Doubtful he will be in CLE either because Mayfield is no better.

Watching this offense and the distribution of the passes, Cooper was a huge luxury at that price. He also was inconsistent, a trait since he came into the league, and for that kind of money, can't have that.

Now the Cowboys do not have any receiver that worries the DC or will pull doubles and that is exactly what they had before they traded for Cooper. The effect of a #1WR isn't just his catches or targets but his overall effect for his own offense by affected the defenses.

Now Lamb gets the best CB on him, let's see how he does.

The Cowboys are a passing offense team and that just became a more horizontal offense.

I honestly would have not paid Zeke and kept all of them. But given the current options, I guess Gallup and Schultz — if Gallup’s knee recovery goes well. And it’s not a choice I’m super confident in.

I was going to start this exact same thread yesterday but turns out I’m fat and lazy. So thank you! It should have been Cooper and it should have taken about 5 seconds for a good organization to make that choice. We probably spent weeks discussing this and end up choosing the way lesser choice. Sooooooo frustrating.
