Players want the most money they can get with as little strings attached as possible.

Just like Gregory, Dallas wants him to sign a behavioral clause and Denver says thats stupid, sign with us instead. Cant blame Gregory, if you get the same money but with no stipulations attached, who wouldnt take that deal.
Gregory has shown his true colors. Without Jerry’s patience and understanding, Randy would have been out of the league and bagging groceries years ago. It is easy to blame Gregory for showing no loyalty and appreciation for Jerry and the team. If a few stipulations was all it took to move on to another team, he didn’t have much character anyway. When his “mental” problems return, let’s see how long Denver stands by him. Jerry should have left Randy and his problems in the nut house where he found him.

There have been a few deal that players backed out of this year. It's strange and I hope it does not become common in the NFL. It does seem a bit unethical. Maybe teams should not count their chickens until the contracts are signed. Whatever happened to the days when teams wouldn't let free agents leave the building until the contract was signed?

They can’t, at least during the unofficial negotiation period. Gives a two day grace period where contracts can be agreed upon, but not signed.

This is really weird. Since when does one FO owe another anything? These teams are competing for the same prize.

And this is why I believe the salary cap should be abolished. If a team doesn’t have enough money to get and keep premium players then they need to get investors to help out. This parody bs has ruined the league to whereas most players never retire with the team the were drafted by. It’s so stupid that Fanatics and NFL.com have a jersey exchange for those who have jerseys of a player who leaves in free agency. It’s gone too far. Each team should be able to spend whatever they can afford to keep who they want and need. The salary cap breeds disloyalty in the players.

It's not a matter of teams being unable to afford a player, it's purely whether or not they have cap space. Any team that can't manage the cap effectively deserves to struggle with keeping players. Jerry can easily root through his couch and find enough to sign any player that was given a new contract this year. What he can't do is magically make cap space appear without putting himself in the same position moving forward.

The cap isn't going anywhere, and nor should it.

So, it's kind of working as intended? It's just different, but still working as intended?

It looks like he disappeared and hasn't even signed the contract. He did that several times in Dallas. There is a reason the Cowboys wanted a behavioral clause, and there's a reason he didn't sign it. This guy is going to go off the rails within one year, if he even plays. It's obvious he needs a strong support structure around him and we gave that to him. He'll come back with his tail between his legs.

I would not let him back. Not even for free.

It’s ruining the game. You can’t develop talent and keep it anymore. Once they perform well and are up for a new contract it’s off to the highest bidder. That’s bs

Well I am not happy with the Bills after the Miller negotiations. They gave him an offer that our FO wouldn't even touch and priced him out of our range but that is all FA it seems other than our own low level ones.
You guys really want old *** Von Miller? Unreal.

Someone with class and a conscience wouldn't take that deal. He would not be an NFL if not for the Dallas Cowboys. We believed in him and bent over backwards to keep him in the NFL. This is what he does?

The days of drafting players like him need to end. It's not cute. It's not edgy. Just stop it. Stop doing it.

you do realize Josh Gordon played in the NFL last year right? I don’t understand why people insist on believing that no team would have gave Randy Gregory a chance. while he was suspended, it cost Dallas nothing to retain his rights and anything they did off the field for him, was only because of what he could do on the field. At the end of the day, Gregory didn’t owe Dallas anything

Yes, he did owe us. Do you really think he stays in football shape this whole time? I don't. I don't see many teams signing him after his second year-long suspension. I believe he got two of them.

We stuck by him. We owed him a fair contract offer and then he owed us at least the decency to not trash us in the media.

The man is garbage.

again do you realize how many times josh Gordon has been suspended for the year and that he played for the Chiefs in 2021? Someone would have signed him had we released him 2-3 years ago

You are asserting that Gregory wouldn’t have gotten more chances. I’m saying that’s ridiculous given Gordon who was suspended just as many times for the same thing keeps getting chances. So what are you basing you knowledge on what would have happened with Gregory on, and what makes his situation different than Gordon besides Gregory didn’t do what you wanted him to do

I didn't want him to stay. That still doesn't mean he's not a dirtbag. I don't think he's in the league if not for us. But either way it doesn't matter. He's gone finally.

Sure you can. You just can't be stupid and pay for everything you "think" is talent. Everyone has the same cap at baseline, it's just a matter of who knows how not to waste it that determines the haves and have-nots.

An NFL without the salary cap (and as a consequence, a cash floor) in the era of TV deals being the highest single source of revenue doesn't work. Nobody is tuning in for a game that features a team with a $500M roster versus a $150M roster.

All teams have the same boundaries. You can't overspend, and you can't underspend. All teams face the same decisions regarding keep/losing talent. It's not like Dallas has been so blessed with drafting ability that they are inherently at a disadvantage when it comes to free agency based solely on an inability to keep everyone worth a new contract. You want no salary cap because you think that will give Dallas an advantage. Don't sugar-coat it. The salary cap is only detrimental to Dallas because Jerry and Steven absolutely suck at managing it. They haven't picked up a big, outside free agent, contract in nearly a decade and still have the salary cap problems they had in 2012. Always over, and now going back to restructuring for the sake of being compliant.

I don’t like it. Players rarely retire with the team they were drafted by. This ain’t the old school NFL I grew up watching. It all changed drastically in the mid 90s
