NE hasn't been particularly good at drafts. They've had Brady and Bellichick's coaching to cover a lot of their drafting warts

They rely heavily on FA as well, so as not to depend entirely on the draft like Dallas does. Ironically the Rams have taken a page from that book to build their SB champ. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Fredrick was considered a half a round reach. One round at the very most.

The NE pick is a 2 round, maybe a 3 round reach according to many

Big difference

No, similar grades and projections. See here, glad to do research for your post ;)

Most people in the nfl didn’t laugh at Fred pick
He was rated late one, early two on most boards
This is a reach to me but he will be on a team known for getting the most out of players so he has a solid chance of success

Most draft sites had low one to high two
You can always find critics fir every pick
Some questioned manning over leaf
But not the majority

Imagine if Dallas would’ve taken this kid last night.
LOL, CZ implodes for sure. Countless fans would be throwing in the towel on this coming season (hell, some already are).

People laughed at the Frederick pick too, everyone thought it was a reach.

I don't think that's the point. It doesn't matter if Cole Strange ends up a hall of fame player, it doesn't justify him being picked in the first round if you can get him in the second round. And most likely in the 3rd round. That's why kickers aren't picked early. It doesn't matter if the kicker is the best kicker ever, you don't pick him in the first rounds because you can get him later.

I would much rather draft guys like Dak in the 4th, Diggs in the 2nd than overpay for Stafford and Ramsey.

That is just me.
Over pay? The Rams just won the Super Bowl and they might do it again.

It worked out for them. It almost didn't and then everyone would be singing a different tune about them.

There isn't a person out there, in a vacuum, that would take Stafford and Ramsey and what they gave up to get them, for what the Cowboys gave up to get Dak and Diggs.

Not one.

As fans all we see is the rankings and projections posted by the mainstream sites. However, we have no real idea how all the other teams value those players. Maybe the Patriots really liked what they saw from Strange at the Senior Bowl and also had intel a couple other teams had interest that were drafting early 2nd. If he does end up as a hall of famer, we'll all be laughing at McVay.

They've been atrocious at drafting wide receivers.

You're right, we don't. They don't either. All I am saying is, if they drafted a guy in the first round they could have got in the 2nd, it's a bad pick. Even if he turns out to be HOF.

Belichek is becoming the old doddering uncle you leave sitting in the corner on Thanksgiving

Amazing folks still question the guy. He's always trusted his own evaluations over popular opinion........ and he's done okay.
