How do you get better? Well my friend first you gotta go about doing things the right way all while loving the game of football and working at being leaders of men and after enough good days are stacked you’ll be able to line up against anyone anywhere

need to committ more to the run game.
og tyler smith should help make that an easier decision as the game unfolds.

…..
if we can score in the red zone and get stops on 3rd down...we'll be improved over last season.
if we continue to struggle in the red zone and not get stops to close out games...we won't.

the bolded portion is correct, we need to run more and more effectively, the OL should have a push to make that happen (with the new TE help , not Dalton whiffing Schultz) , If Zeke is not cutting it , Pollard should become the bell cat and we should use some power running( use heavier RB/ FB) , punishing style , by 4th quarter the Opposing DL should be making business decisions.

Dak performs better with a good run game . ( unfortunate, but true )

I'll start by saying this isn't what I think will happen, but rather, this is what I think needs to happen if we are to be better than last season. There's clearly been a talent drain on offense (Cooper, Collins, Wilson, Williams, Jarwin) and it has been replaced with far less. That means like Dan Quinn did last season, we need for our offense to get more from less.

So my list of things that need to happen to be better than last season:
  1. Tyler Smith needs to be on the rookie team of the year.
  2. Ceedee needs to have double-digit TD's and be force feed by Dak, scheme'd open by Kellen
  3. Ferguson needs to be a sneaky red zone threat and RedZone foil to Ceedee
  4. Zeke needs to get out of Pollard's way
  5. Farniok needs to take Biadasz's job
  6. Dak needs to stay healthy and have confidence in his O-line
That's a big ask, I have no confidence it will happen, but if we can make it happen then we could take a step forward from what we saw last season.
There are 100’s of ways to get better. If non of those happen we could still get better.

Get better on offense? Run the ball
Get better on defense? Stop the run

The Cowboys, while the owners might want it to be a passing team, it is not built for that. They need to get a little less showbiz and more about the basics and fundamentals of football.

In the history of this franchise, they've never reached the top without a good balanced offense with an exceptional OL and a top 10 defense.

..the OL has to step up the game. Dak's confidence level rides the wave with it. Its better to have 4-5 secs to throw then 2-3. Makes world of difference.
its not about pass protection. its about the running game. if the running game doesn't work. offense has no chance.

We can't get better while Moore is running Garrett's offense .

We just can't .

Zeke needs to stay healthy
Just run the damn ball
Use passing game as an extension of the running game (short, RBs, motion, quick crosses)
Dak with more tuck and run plays
Need a 3rd legit RB with speed and pass catching ability

  4. Zeke needs to get out of Pollard's way COACHES WILL NEVER LET THIS HAPPEN

Most posts in the thread have to do with play calling , thats Moore's ' area of expertise ' .

So , we need him gone . NUMERO UNO.

If Tyler Smith plays like a first round pick the line will be better. losing Collins and Williams makes the line better. Cooper was overkill, didnt need him.

Washington is better than Wilson and then we add Tolbert.

Jarwin did nothing and was a horrible blocker. NO loss there.

Dak is healthy and has a full offseason with the receivers.

Losing Moore would be an addition by subtraction. That's how we get better. So our offense won't be any better this year, but the defense will. We just need to bring back Bill Callahan as our offensive coordinator next year.

Moore sucks.

Yah if Moore rolls out the feature zeke up the middle offense, were going nowhere. And Personally I dont see any way that doesnt happen until Zeke is gone off this team.

If what you say comes to pass, that would be great. But let's take a more realistic approach. Just take two of your 6. Say 2 and 3. Williams is as good as people think and is an impact player. Some of our interior lineman on D improve and we're better against the run. Not likely, but legit possibilities.

I got the impression that the Cowboys were drafting with status quo in mind. I would have taken a different path and focused on what the draft gave us. The Cowboys could have improved the D, and waited until the 3rd round for an OL. At least there's improvement somewhere as opposed to status quo. But that's just my crap opinion, and I'm usually wrong anyway.

How is it not likely that our young DT's dont improve? That is pretty much a given unless they get hurt. Lawrence is finally going to start a season healthy and ready to go. Parsons will be better. All these guys being in the defense for a 2nd year will help and Quinn knowing his personnel will help.

The offense will get better if the Oline performs better, and it really is as simple as that. Dak is a good qb, but not a guy who will cover major deficiencies like we had last season. Oline plays well, the running game shouldnt fall off a cliff like it did last year. With a solid running game to keep defenses honest Dak can flourish, and we still have enough talent at the skill positions for him to do so.

Agreed. The offense is all about the line. Personally I am skeptical they did enough to be markedly better this year. I think the line will be in transition for the next few years.

Don’t see us being better this season at least not record wise. The only thing that will make a difference is a more determined group of players with at least two rookies making a significant impact and better coaching. McCarthy is on the hot seat and if the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs or at least get past the divisional round he’s likely gone.

Its about being better by seasons end. The Cowboys have a chance to do just that with the improvement of all this young talent.

I think this team has a decent chance of ending the upcoming season with a 10-7 record.
Whether it's enough to win the Eastern Division simply remains to be determined.

Let's just say the planets will be obliged to align properly for such a scenario to be seen!

So your saying the planets have to align for the Cowboys to win 10 games?

Let's not take that phrase literally. What it means, in essence, is that thing would have to go well. Is that that clear enough now?

If you look at the schedule 10 games is a minimum range based on being healthy. I have them anywhere from 10 games to 13 games with 13 being unlikely. I have them at 12 games. Much would have to go wrong for them to win only 10.
