I think an argument can be made if Hurts should be ranked 2nd. But what strikes me as concerning is that Dak's contract for 2022 is 40M and Hurts is 1.5M. I would expect Dak to lead our team to post season wins, which we know he doesn't. If I look at contracts, which team really has the QB **** show?

As QBs, I’d put Wentz and Jones both above Hurts. Hurts has been absolutely nothing but a bus driver and runner. His success comes from a very good run game and scheme.

He's starting over Minshew because he's their 2nd round pick. That's it. Nothing I've ever seen from him tells me he's better than Minshew. And I don't think Minshew is all that.

Dak's cap hit for 2022 is 19.7M. Hurts is 1.6M.

My ranking today:

Dak
Wentz
Hurts
Jones

All this is subject to change once the season gets rolling.

Hurts is the only non NFL QB. Wentz and Jones may not be great QBs, but given time in the pocket they are NFL QBs. Jones can still go through progressions and go downfield. Hurts is only the better choice if you're a run heavy offense that includes the quarterback. But for no other reason.

They have 5 QBs on the cap right now.
I use Spotrac because they break it down per team by position.

That price for Hurts and Minshew is phenomenal. But I do believe most teams would consider them highly rated back-ups not starters.
They did add another rookie in Carson Strong who has some promise.
Will be interesting to see if they like this method of tilting versus the league and going cheap at QB with young guys.
Or if they extend Hurts at mega-bucks as their franchise guy.

Generally speaking they can prolly get the best deal by signing Hurts now. A lesson Dallas learned to painful effect by waiting.
There might be a QB challenge going into Eagles training camp; remember back in 2012 when newly-signed FA Matt Flynn and the incumbent starter (the late) Tavaris Jackson were beaten out by a 3rd round rookie?

I don't remember that. But if Minshew starts they'll be better in the passing game. But they won't have the run threat they have with Hurts.

That was in Seattle - Russell Wilson was named the Seahawks starter by HC Pete Carroll during their TC.

Wilson was a 3rd round pick? I knew he wasn't a first rounder, I just didn't know he was a 3rd rounder. But it still took him a few years to be who he is today.

Talk about right place, right time:
Bobby Wagner and a few other draftees helped complete the "Legion of Doom", RB Lynch, C Unger, OT Okung led a solid offense; thus a 7-9 team the season before became an 11-5 wildcard round winner in 2012.
The next two years - consecutive Super Bowl appearances.

Good: Cowboys have the best starting QB in the division.

Bad: Cowboys have the worst backup QB in the division.

What say you?

PS: Should Cowboys look to upgrade their backup QB, or are you satisfied keeping Cooper Rush as Dak's backup?

Based on that list Cooper Rush # 6. Then Minshew then USFL for Heineken .

The Cowboys should be looking to replace Rush, as soon as possible. I would really like to see a highly touted QB that flamed out, looking for another shot (RGIII type, Mayfield, Mariotta) or a very, very athletic rookie that we can throw a curve ball at the other defense if Dak has to leave the game. (A QB that can beat you with the run and pass a little bit).

I think Dak's contractual bungling was totally due to the Dallas front office's negotiating ineptness, through no fault of Dak.

Blaming Dak for the misgivings of the front office is simply an agenda-based disservice to him for the blunders of the C'boys' FO.
