I've heard fans say we need LB depth, well no need to fear, DQ IS HERE!!! It was said in rookie camp, Bell played and or was tested at the LB spot instead of the safety position.

As we saw with Kearse last season, he play often as a LB. With that said, do you see us still seeking depth, or will we use safeties as our LBS, please give your thoughts!!!

I've got concerns that would be helped by adding one vet. Parsons is legitimate and LVE came on later in the season in the base defense role. But we don't know at this point how Cox will handle the Neal role, especially coming off injury, and our options if he struggles are a depth guy (Gifford) and either a fifth-round draft pick (Harper) or UDFAs/preseason roster fillers (Hansford, Bond, Jackson).

I believe Bell is being worked at the same nickel/dime linebacker that Kearse plays, but we also like to have two real LBs on the field whether we are in base or nickel, Parsons/LVE and Parsons/Cox. Damone Clark may be able to step in for one of them when he gets healthy, but in the meantime, we don't have any kind of proven fallback.

We could wait to see how Cox does in the preseason before adding a vet if needed.

With as long as it may take Clark to be ready for this season or potentially next, Barr would be a nice 1 year rental and I would feel better about our LB situation.

Agreed. That's probably the reason I'd go ahead and add the veteran. Even if LVE and Cox play well, there's nothing wrong with having four quality linebackers. It would create a nice rotation, and even make it easier for Parsons to line up at end some.

Gifford and Bernard are the backups and I dont think they are starter material.

Cox is coming off AcL injury. So it is pretty much Micah and LVE , Kearse in hybrid role . We need another proven player. anthony Barr or someone like that is not a luxury but a need.

LVE is the backup to Cox.

Hooker, Kearse, and Wilson are our base starters. With Hooker playing the LB role.
At least, I hope, that's how they do it.

Would love us to sign some veteran free agency depth at the position.

Bell like Kearse is more of a strong safety in the base and a linebacker in the nickel. If we lose either of our inside starters, could be in some trouble.

He would be but that’s to much like right with this front office he will sign a cheap 1 year deal and we will be like we like our guys

I would have no concerns at all if the rookie LSU linebacker was completely healthy. But with Cox coming off ACL and the rookie probably not available for most of the season we might need to bring in a veteran.

I think you are confused. Hooker is the FS with Kearse as the SS. Wilson will play a lot in the nickel and dime packages.

LB is a core position for ST so depth actually contributes
I like the idea of a big safety sliding down but I think you need more traditional LB depth too
LVE hasn’t been injured some in his career and Cox is coming off injury
I guess it really depends on how much actual LB parson will play

Doesn't help. Our LB problem is stopping the run and using safeties in a hybrid role won't help that. They'll get steam rolled by OGs. Also I'll believe Clark will help for the beginning of the season when I see him on the field week 1. Our "regular" LBs are Micah who while incredible, we do need other LBs so we can allow him to freelance and be at his best, Cox who is coming off injury and not the biggest guy so we need to make sure he can hold up as an every down LB and LVE who has not been very good since his first year and missed tackles constantly. In passing downs, sure, using some of these safeties can help and Cox will I believe be fantastic in that role. We still need a LB who can be a run stopper on early downs or ideally a 3 down guy.

We’re in May we’re not going to find out if anything is solved until the season starts.
