The 2021 Cowboys were 6-1 after their bye week, then proceeded to go 6-4 the last half and most unfortunately, 0-1 in their lone playoff game last year. Another disappointing year that started with such promise.

Below are some very practical ways the Cowboys need to improve to take the next step toward competing once again for a championship:
  • Defend the home field- the Cowboys are a mediocre 58-46 since moving into AT&T stayjum. In the playoffs, we are 3-2 at AT&T since it opened. Playing better at home is good sign of improvement overall.
  • Play better on Turkey Day- the Cowboys are 3-7 in their last ten Thanksgiving Day games, all at home. That used to be a real advantage to have that game at home but the Cowboys have squandered it 70% of the time the last decade.
  • Get more mental and physical toughness- I was stunned last year by how much our players and coaches whined publicly about officiating. That is a loser mentality. Yes, they got screwed by some calls- happens to everyone. Then they let teams like the broncos and 49ers just physically dominate them at the LOS. Teams that win in the playoffs can overcome adversity. It requires mental toughness to fight through it.
  • Less stupid penalties- remember all the stupid pre-snap penalties in the 49er playoff game last year? Randy Gregory’s stupid holding call on 3rd down when the Cowboys had stopped them? More than half of Connor Williams’ league leading holding penalties occurred on 3rd down. Drive killers. You can’t win in the playoffs being stupid.
  • Stop the run- if you get dominated by the opposing OL in the running game you have no chance to win in the playoffs. The Cowboys have been an easy team to run on for most of the last decade. At least they have somewhat addressed that in the draft the last two years. We need to see improvement there to get more competitive when it matters most.
Those are just a few. What else?

Defending Home Field - Losing to the Raiders and Bronco didn't amount to a hill of beans difference last season. The Cowboys still got their chance to win a playoff game on their home turf. They got beat by a better time in the 49ers.

Play better on Thanksgiving - Again, losing on Thanksgiving Day to the Raiders had no effect on the season last year. The only significance of this year's Thanksgiving Day game against the Giants is it's a divisional game. The Cowboys will be favored and Daniel Jones is still a bad QB.

Get more mental and physical toughness - Penalties affect the flow of the game and negate positive plays. How you can expect the players not to complain about penalties is beyond me. Not complaining about them doesn't fix anything. This leads to the next point.

Less stupid penalties - That is your first suggestion that is a legit improvement if they can do it.

Stop the Run
- The Cowboys improved at stopping the run last season but then teams figured out if they block Micah Parsons they will have more success. SF did a great job of this in the playoff game and the results were devastating to our defense. Let's hope our additions in the offseason will give Parsons more help at stopping the run.

If you're mentally and physically tough most things will fall into place, it's up to the coaches to have the team ready, and they themselves need to be ready, game preparation and adjustments if needed. We need accountability from both players and coaches.

I thought get rid of Moore needed it's own subsection.

1) Build the offense to succeed on the ground.

2) Stop paying RB's like it's the '90's.

3) Build up on the defensive side of the ball.

4) Be more aggressive in free agency.

5) Stop paying mediocre talent top money.

Well done as always. I don't even know the names of the backs we have outside of Zeke and Pollard but it would be nice to have one who could take some carries and be effective. They're a dime a dozen.

Yes. I’m all for complaining about refs. Hell, I’ll do it right now. They suck and we’ve been screwed fairly routinely in consistently inconsistent ways.

Players and coaches can’t do it though. It just doesn’t work. It hurts the morale and refs react poorly. (Like they do about most stuff)

I think you nailed it on the last three. Fix them and the top three fall in line. Two of the last three I think is coaching. You think Parcells or Johnson would have tolerated some of those low intensity lazy games we played? Even though Bill's teams were nothing like Jimmy's, they played with high intensity. We didn't see too many back to back lackluster games from either team.

Yep Moore's Garrett 2.0 offense from the 90's has got to go!
SO SO SO disappointed that Mac did not install his offense and call the plays:mad:

Yes our front office needs to address #'s 2, 4 and 5.
We have amatuer's running the front office, really hurts this team.

Fix the darn ground attack, become more balanced. Fix the slow starts, red zone efficiency and the kicking game.

They addressed the DL to stop the run, but with FA's and 3rd round draft picks or later. That may get it done if they hit on the picks. But if they would just invest a 1st rounder there, it could be much better.
I won't go into this thinking they fixed the run defense until I see it on the field.

As to all teams get screwed by penalties...well, it happens to Dallas more than the other teams. And everyone knows it, just some won't admit it. Though we did get a few favorable calls that helped in a game last year, I can't remember which one. Maybe it was the Saints game after we got royally screwed in the Raiders game.

Lol. You beat me to it. Holding on to Moore was the biggest mistake MM could have done. Now they hired a new WR coach Robert Prince, who has deep ties to Moore. Only time will tell.
I'm ok with Moore, but Prince sucks. Forgot we added him. Let's just hope he is a better WR coach than he was an offensive coordinator.
