You pay them extra for their service. Wisen up. Quit trying to make excuses for your personal refusal to better protect our children.

Be a part of the solution, not continuing the problem.
Want to hear my solution? Really?

Mandatory firearm training for elementary school kids.

who needs crap like art and music. When they could spend that time learning to defend themselves.

I've read that he stormed past an armed guard.
I read the guard didn’t engage him
Not sure why
Was he armed? if he was armed why didn’t he engage?
Did he feel out gunned, scared or what

I really can't understand why other countries don't have this problem? Trying to remember the last mass shooting in a Canadian school.

There are a few simple answers to that question that are completely true but would take a little effort to realize, which is why people don’t want to hear them.

Arm a select few teachers in every school while posting signs of a well armed school.

Tough but best defense.
if somebody wants to go shooting, as these a-holes who will burn in hell, then they will go. they know they are not getting out alive. so I am not sure if that's a deterrent. its just less kids get killed. but still kids get killed. we shouldn't have tolerance for any. less is still some and ask the parents of those kids how they feel. our tolerence and expectations should be set at ZERO.

so not sure if that's a solution. just because someone has a gun, doesn't mean they know how best to use it in a chaotic stressful situation. its not as simple as pulling a trigger..... Police, Armed forces get trained for how to manage in those situations. they go through training. what if that teacher in the middle of a chaos, perhaps kids running, thinks they saw the shooter and shoot an innocent kid. will we say, well eventually they shot the killer, but hey we lost less kids and limited the damage.

its sad, a sad sad day if we have to have fully armed personnel and teachers to "feel" the kids are protected. feel not actually being protected.

It certainly feels wrong to advertise you're unarmed in this day & age.
Mental health has GOT to be addressed.
Not just on this forum either.
there is a reason a lot of these kids, young kids do this. yes, its mental health. but counsolers at school are undermanned, over worked and overwhelmed. and we tend to spend the least we can on schools. teachers are most under paid workers in america.

Ridiculous! I was an educator for 30 years....this is crap. Hire a trained security with a gun license...half the price and better trained.

I know it may be foreign to you if you live in certain communist states, lol....

But i am sure a lot of the teachers in Tx and other freedom-loving states are already licensed to conceal carry. They would likely feel relieved to be able to carry in a place where they are the most vulnerable. I know I would.

Of course, they would have to be certified in some way beyond their concealed carry license.
more are not licensed and I live in texas. most don't want to carry a gun to school. that's an assumption on your part. most teachers I talk to just want to teach. there is plenty of hard work for them dealing with kids in 6 or 7 school periods per day. and what about the children being exposed to a gun in classroom. do you really trust the teachers that much?

Exactly. Therefore these events will continue to occur.

is this what we have come down to? having armed to the teeth security at schools so we feel the children are protected? then what's the difference between us and some of these third world countries where the kids are exposed to soldiers and armed personnel everywhere they go. that's not normal. and what if one of these trained arm personnel decides to do something crazy? armed and trained!!!!

All I know is people will never unify on a solution and therein lies the main problem.
It just festers.

there is not a singular action that can fix the issue. at this point multiple actions need to be taken. and an armed teacher may reduce the number of casualties. and in this case, every teacher in every class room would have to be armed.

and its a sad day if we think reducing the number of casualties as an acceptable form of solution. that's when we have failed as a society.

background checks, program to collect illegal arms and fight illegal gun sales, kool off period before you get to own the gun. training programs. better mental health evaluation for kids in highschool (which most of these people have been young and started in high school). along with armed security around schools, trained teachers and kids how to handle situations like this (because we know it will happen again unfortunately), better way to limit access to school entrances (right now there is one door to a big hall, packed with kids at lunch time in my kids high school....a shooter can just shoot the door open and walk). there has to be multiple steps in addressing this issue.
