Excuses only explain, they don't excuse. The facts still remain as facts no matter how many caveats you add to them.

it’s not an excuse. The Saints were robbed completely on the PI call. It’s not even a debate. It’s probably the worst and most egregious call in NFL history period. And it wasn’t his coaching that ‘choked’ in the playoffs, such against Tampa Bay it was the HOF QB, who being less than 6 feet tall, threw bone head INTs because he often can’t see over much taller defenders.

While I don't agree with it, I can understand the arguments that Payton is better than McCarthy. There is absolutely NO legitimate argument to be made that he is so much better than McCarthy that it would be worth giving up multiple first round picks.
What has MM done so far ? An 18-15 record at the weakest division In football. An ugly home playoff loss , unexplained decisions and clock management issues , and a the most penalized team in the NFL . Unexplained ugly losses , Pretty disappointing don’t you think ?
A coach who was fired from the packers and they got better after he left . Many argue MM had incredible luck with elite HOF QBs all his career : Montana , Rogers and others .
Sean Payton has averaged around 11 or 12 wins his last 5 seasons in a tougher division and less resources.
His teams are tough to play every year . Most importantly, he can demand things from Jerry that many coaches cannot due to their history and friendship . Jerry many not hire him however , as he many take the credit away from him .

I wouldn’t give up any draft picks. How else would we get better outside of the draft? It’s not like we get free agents. The Cowboys are 100% built and maintained by the draft.

one of the tougher divisions? you forgot how much tampa and panthers suck. atlanta had about 3 good years with Quinn. so nah, they weren't one of the toughest divisions.

How many Super Bowls did Sean Payton win as a head coach?

A far more interesting question that would have been relevant a few years ago is Payton/Garrett.

You know not what you speak.

Sean Payton is under contract through 2024 with the #Saints,” Rapoport tweeted. “If another team wanted to swoop in, they would need to compensate New Orleans.
Thank you for that bit of information. With that said, McCarthy's job is safe until then.

Forget the trade compensation. Just about every people in their right mind outside of this board has Payton as a significantly better coach. To suggest otherwise is flat out wrong.
Compare the records and Super Bowls with McCarthy. He’s not significantly better.

Yeah if you want him NOW, sure.

They hold his rights, they arent still paying him. There's a difference.

After a season goes by, or even two, what is the Saints' recourse vs demanding high picks from a team he wants to coach? Bring him back and get rid of his replacement? Try to tell him too bad, you can't return to the league?

It's not the same as a player doing this, where they could easily re add him to the roster.

After 2022, they may get something like a 3rd as a fair offering, maybe, but after 2023 it's zero.

Organizations don't play hard ball with people. It's a bad look for an entity that needs to continue to hire players and coaches.

If and when Payton wants to return to coaching after the Saints have long moved on, they will not prevent him from doing it by demanding multiple high draft picks.

Payton went 7-9 3 years in a row with a HOF QB. Compare road and home stats for that offense. Playing in the Superdome gives an unreal advantage.

He thought Taysom Hill was a viable NFL QB. Even Belichick is showing warts without Brady. Unless your team is fully loaded, giving away picks for a coach is a bad idea.

I have read that two 1st would be the starting point. Would you go for that?

I would give 0 picks as with the Jones boys over his head and their meddling it would be a total waste!
