I hear a lot in CZ for preston williams , but wonder why is he in the chopping block at Miami ? You know Wilson went to Miami as probably the WR2. But I am all for that if he is established as a outside WR , because we seem to have several slot WRs but not outside (like Gallop , Amari )

Miami sort of moved on.

Early reports are that Erik Ezukanma has impressed and has a strong shot at #4 WR
Once they get to #5 and #6, you got to play STs and while Williams has done punt returns in the past I'm not sure about kickoff coverage or other ST spots.
He's also quite injury prone.

Like @John813 said, the Dolphins basically forced him off the roster. This offseason, the Dolphins sold the farm to get Tyfreak, paid Cedrick Wilson $12M guaranteed, and spent a 4th rounder on another guy. That's 3 WRs they just added since March, and with the studly Jaylen Waddle on the roster, that's 4 jobs taken. Williams is the WR5 pretty much automatically.

He wants a shot somewhere else and he's talented enough to get it, so he will be on someone else's roster by week 1.

IMO it would be a good idea to sign a FA WR within a couple of weeks so they can get the reps available in TC. If they wait until it’s obvious the “youngsters” won’t be good enough for the reg season it’s too late.

So we obviously need to sign a vet WR. Who's available that you like?

OBJ? Allen Hurns? Fuller? TY Hilton? Sanders? Djack? Beas? Humphries? Westbrook? Someone else?

Would you try to trade for one? If so who and what are you giving up?

Hilton, Fuller, or OBJ

OBJ if he wasn't hurt. (But he wouldn't be available anyways.) Otherwise, probably no point in adding any of them. Probably be available game 3-4 if what we have doesn't work.

Or Jerry can pull a Jerry and trade our next two years of draft picks for another WR that a team doesn't believe is worth paying as #1.

Obviously? Because Washington got hurt? Please. Strongly disagree with you. The Cowboys have plenty of good WR's and Gallup will be back pretty soon. Roll with what we got.

fuller, could be a good option for 3rd WR and can start if pushed. not OBJ, unless its the last 4 games of the season and we want to make a run. too much of a locker room cancer
Hilton is done. who are the rest?

I’d go with TY Hilton just to finally add a deep threat.

Adam Humphries would be my #2 candidate.

If the young receivers show they cannot handle the reps by the first preseason game, I think the team will start trying to find an alternative. Honestly, I don’t really value anyone that is available now. I think the move would be to wait and see who gets cut after preseason, or who made it onto a team and is buried on the depth chart to trade for.

it would be nice to get a little value, rather than just a panic rental.

I would like Noah Brown to ball out the first two preseason games and put the idea of signing a free agent to rest,

Why not? Brown is a four year veteran that has played and practiced in the Cowboys offensive system.

let's wait and see what we already have. How many receivers out there are still young, somebody the Cowboys can build on? Our guys might just be betrer than the ancient broken down options in veteran free agency.

I'm surprised by how many of you don't think we need a vet WR. I thought we needed one even before we lost Washington. Now with him out for an extended period of time, MG out and all the other unknowns it just doesn't seem like we're good there.

I get, and agree with seeing what the young guys can do. But IMHO, you can't prepare for a season wondering and waiting to see what you have. You go into the season as prepared as you can get and hope that other guys surprise and step up. But you cover your butt as much as possible because you have to be able to function if they don't.

no we obviously don't have to sign a vet receiver....we are in the first week of tc and we lost a guy for 6 weeks. We have a lot of young guys on the roster that could step up, use the roster, see what we have, if things don't materialize over the next 3 weeks THEN you go get someone....no need to panic right now and sign a player that might not be needed.
agreed

Totally agree. In fact Haze's opinion in his Proactive vs. Reactive post specifically covers this type belief with having the insurance of a FA to cover for the things you describe here.

Others want to wait it out on the current roster young guys to see if they can do the job while ignoring the fact that the other teams are getting those FAs and the FA talent pool dries up quickly.

I totally agree with you as well as Bob.

leftovers dry up but also late TC releases also happen. No need to panic sorry

i think wait 3 weeks into the TC process, evaluate and then if needed, skim for a Vet FA..
