I know 32 years isn't exactly a milestone but this came across on my Facebook news feed today and wanted to share it. I can still feel the awe and respect in my heart for this man just looking at this picture.

On this day August 4, 1990 - Tom Landry was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

The NFL Hall Of Fame lost its entire reason for existing the day Jerry Jones was inducted. He was inducted for helping everyone get filthy stinking rich - that's it.

At least Tom earned his induction.

Coach Tom Landry, born and raised in deep South Texas out of Mission, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, a fellow Valley native who helped put the Valley on the map. This man was one of our Valley's best and will always be held as one of our best (a legend) for everything he accomplished in life (also for serving our country during WWII), for proudly representing South Texas and for being America's Team's foundational and historical best Coach in Dallas Cowboys franchise history.

I was there that day, Staubach's induction as well. They were the primary reasons I became a Cowboys fan in the first place.

Me too. Growing up in NC in the 70's we didn't have a football team. The Deadskins were the closest thing and I hated them. Tom and Roger just had class about them. I was just in awe of them. Been a fan ever since. How I long for the days when our organization was the class of the league.

I was 5-0 in Tom Landry Stadium...I'm very proud of that. He was born and raised 30 miles from my hometown....he's a legend.
That’s funny… I remember Landry saying in an interview that he was born and raised 30 miles from Ranching’s hometown.

The media guy said, “Ranching”?

Tom said, “The Ranching. The legend.”

Media guy: “Ohhhhhhh!”

I got to meet Coach Landry in 1989. He was at a book signing for his autobiography at a Barnes and Noble in Ft. Worth. He took time with each person in line, looked them in the eye, and asked their name before signing the book.

I remember being awed by how big he was. He was in a short sleeved polo and looked like he could still bench press about 350 lbs. Not an ounce of fat on the guy. Just oozed class.

This reminded me of when I met Mel Renfro at a game some years back. I had the opposite impression of Mel. I was amazed at how skinny he was. But he still looked fit as a fiddle. But even he remarked at how buff my brother in law and I were!

Mel was another one who oozed class though as did so many guys from that era.
