Stanford Routt Remains In Kansas City

We told you a couple of days ago that former Oakland Raiders CB Stanford Routt would be meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday.
It looks as if the meeting went well.
According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, Routt is still in KC for a second day of interviews with the Chiefs.
This is significant news in my view. If the Chiefs weren’t seriously considering signing Routt, I doubt they’d have him hang around for a second day. In fact, sometimes when a free agent hangs around town for an extra day it is because the team is having him go through a physical. If that is the case, a signing could come soon after. Like today.
Then again, it is possible that the Chiefs just took Routt out to dinner last night and are meeting with him at the facility today. Still, two days in town is two days in town and is worth keeping a close eye on.

The only positive is the Chiefs may be prepared to let Brandon Carr go.

KC does have some good barbecue. The possible good news out of this is that local speculation is that if the Chiefs do sign him, they will be willing to let Carr go.

True, but if that were the case, I really doubt we go after him. Lots of other teams have more money and, more importantly, the wherewithal to sign Carr

Right I would rather have Carr, younger and a better player. But what does that mean about the kind of money Carr must be asking for.

According to Archer, Routt was never scheduled to come here for a visit.

He is going to get insane money.

Then we can have people rationalizing not signing him after weeks of campaigning for him.

If that means that they let Carr walk and we could get Carr instead I'd be absolutely all for that.

but Carr will want alot more money than Routt would want. Being the reason KC would rather sign him and let Carr walk.

Wouldn't surprise me if wanted to stay in the AFC and within the division; he knows the WRs in that division and probably feels comfortable there.

Watch, KC will double dip, use this as a means to drive Carr's price down and sign him to an extension and give Routt a 2 year deal for slightly more than he should be worth.

Speaks well for Routt that a division rival (that is coached by a defensive guy) is making a serious run for him.

I don't know why we'd want that. We just signed Scandrick to a healthy deal. Jenkins comes up next year. Adding a contract like Carr's new one to the mix would be a ridiculous amount of money tied to the CB position.

Unless you want to trade in Jenkins for Carr. Let him walk next year.

This place is going to be real fun if free agency kicks off and Dallas signs nobody in the first few days.

It will, but they really do need to sign some FA's thir year. They simply won't be able to fill all needs via the draft and Romo's window is closing slowly.
