Fact is TMZ bribed someone for the tape, which is fine because they are a news organization, but the NFL cannot operate with the same tactics. If they use evidence illegally obtained, they open themselves up to a truckload of liability.

If it is illegal for TMZ it would be illegal for the NFL.

It was not illegal for either because it was from the casino.

The NFL dropped the ball on this

FURTHERMORE...The ravens has went on record and have said that Ray did not lie about what he did. What he said to them was what was on the tape. The ravens knew what Ray did because Ray told them and since the Ravens knew the NFL knew.

Whether the Ravens or NFL saw the tape does not really matter in the end. Then knew what happened because Ray told them what happened.

The only difference with the tape is that it got out and the Public saw it and the NFL could not hide it.

THAT is what has really happened.

When I say "illegal" I don't mean, like, anyone would actually go to jail for obtaining that videotape. What I mean is that if the NFL obtained an unauthorized copy and used that against Rice when passing judgment, they would open themselves up to a truckload of liability.

Furthermore, media outlets have "shield laws" in place in many states whereby they are afforded different protections so your blanket statement "if it is illegal for TMZ it would be illegal for the NFL." is not accurate. I don't know the specifics in New Jersey.

Any smart lawyer at the NFL office who got a copy of that unauthorized tape would be smart to shred it right then and there.

I have yet to see anyone post a law that says it was illegal for TMZ, and in turn the NFL, to get a video tape from the Casino.

Ravens owner just said he did not think of it at the time but takes blame for that and said if he wanted the tape he would have demanded the tape and would have got the tape.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 but I doubt he an the NFL worried about some liability when they already seen the other surveillance video from outside the elevator.

This is a lose lose for the NFL and I have a feeling that since two NFL owners are one the investigation team we won't find anything too dancing to make the NFL get rid of Roger.

Haha. What if those owners did something wrong would Roger punish them after this? I kind of doubt it.
