They used him as a tight end and fullback quite a bit. He's only 5'11 though. They say he has great hands.
I’m saying he’s not an nfl tight end. There’s never been a 5’11 220 pound tight end. He can catch which is why he needs to be the pick instead of Hines

I bet Griffin goes early in the 4th round. Some team may think the positive publicity from such a move is worth a 4th round pick - and he can actually play.

The Cowboys are drafting late in the 4th . I would have given up those two picks for a 3rd and a shot at a legitimate safety or DT prospect.

I'll take Hurst and Josey Jewell. Would be totally impressed with this already impressive draft. Our team would probably be the youngest team in the league at this point.

I thought for a while we would use the 6th round picks to move up but this draft is so deep that I'm fine just staying put and picking guys still on the board. We have fewer roster spots and can take more gambles on either Anthony Brown types dropping or developmental projects like Rico Gathers.

I'd love Hurst, but his medicals must be pretty messed up if he's still on the board. It's pretty weird that he got cleared by two sets of doctors, yet teams still have him as DND.

Getting Jewell and Elliott would probably be our best bet at this point.
Mayock said 15 of 16 teams he asked about Hurst had removed him completely its so bad.

Get St. Brown! Still does not understand why Gallup not him in the 3rd round.

Wouldn't mind St Brown or Deon Cain. Tall and fast WRs who might need a little work on routes/time to develop.

Ian Thomas

Chris Herndon Miami TE is intriguing to me. I know, I know he had a season ending MCL but could be a steal if he keeps dropping and his knee checks out. In 5th round could get a steal if you can wait for him to get healthy.

Pre-Draft Analysis
Herndon had season-ending surgery on his left knee in 2017 (torn MCL). He's a smooth route runner with the quickness to separate and grades out as a flex tight end with the tools to make an impact as a receiver if he makes a full recovery.

Would love to see the Cowboys make a serious attempt at this inside DT, Tim Settle, 6'3", 335. This guy is persistent and disruptive inside at the line of scrimmage who loves to make tackles in the backfield.

Also would love to see the Cowboys go after FS Deshon Elliott. He's a hybrid between FS & SS, can cover deep, shoot the edge or at times play close to the line of scrimmage. Is not afraid to hit or make the tackle, plus is an interception machine. Deshon Elliott is 6'1", 210 pounds and is similar in comparison to ex-Longhorn DB, Kenny Vaccaro.

Has good measurables:

Measurable Measurement %tile
Height 6' 0⅞" 37
Weight 210 lbs 61
Wingspan 77¾" 72
Arm Length 32¼" 67
Hand Size 10½" 97
40 Yard Dash 4.58s 43
Vertical Jump 36" 55
Broad Jump 121" 56
Bench Press 15 reps 33

Interesting BTB:

And the best part is - this thing is far from over. The Cowboys still have seven picks left for Day 3. Now, there is going to be some wheeling and dealing going on, but look for the Cowboys to come away with more players we will be excited about. Some of my favorites remaining that could fill needs are defensive tackle Tim Settle and tight end Ian Thomas. Getting one of those guys would just be epic for me at this point. There are also a couple “double-dip” options that intrigued me as both wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and linebacker Josey Jewell would be fantastic value at this point in the draft. There are also some good running backs still on the board in Nyheim Hines and John Kelly.
