We should have a good pass rush this year and just a really solid D-Line.

We should have a really good LB corps this year.

We should have a good secondary this year.

We brought in a aggressive coach for the secondary and have a bunch back there that was really coming on at the end of last year. Sounds like this guy is gonna let them play aggressive.

Good additions at LB and DE coming back. Improvement at DT? We should be stopping the run pretty well and pressuring the qb.

I believe barring injury that this will be the Defense we have needed for that last 4 years to make the SB push.

Now will our Offense keep up?

I am pumped guys and girls. This could be the year for real. Comes down to coaching, which scares me. Lol.

we should...do we? that's a different question. We should have a good DL...Lawrence...yes, Irvin...yes..Collins? 50/50 and the most important RDE...can Charlton step up? not sure..... so defensive line has questions...

I liked the LVE pick...but he is a rookie, so I will hold my excitement until season starts...it all hinges on Lee...hopefully Smith progresses better. regardless I think we are better off than last year.

Chidobe...hopefully improved..... Lewis...I like him replacing Scandrick...but Jones to CB....yeah, tall, rangy, etc...but hasn't played CB in the NFL for 4 years....can he? its a big question mark.

and safties, plain suck.....

good defense? probably..top 15...probably..top 10...if Jones, and LVE workout...top 5...probably not.

Though Richard does prefer length, he did provide context that there is always the exception to the rule. Much like how Earl Thomas was sub-six feet but one of the best to ever play, Richard sees that same potential in Jourdan Lewis (5’10, 31 5/8 inch arms)

Coach Richard On Byron Jones’ college tape was a good indicator that he wasn’t a fan of what the Cowboys were doing with him prior to this move:

Richard: Length, strength, create issues at the line of scrimmage. We want to cause as many problems as we can for an offense before the ball is even snapped.

Sean Lee was quoted as loving the intense nature that he sees in first-round pick, Leighton Vander Esch, who was back out on the grind today:

The ONLY guy added to the defense is a rookie LBer. That's it. And we already had a problem with our starting DT. If a big leap is going to come its going to have to come from the 2nd year guys in the secondary and a 100% Jaylon. Then you have to pray that Lee doesn't get injured. Those are all very tall orders. I honestly don't think the defense has a great chance to make a big leap until 2019.

I think our D could be in the top 5, IF we can consistently stop the run on early downs and put teams in 3rd and long. We have playmaking LB’s, and I think, young playmaking DB’s vs the pass, and should have an excellent pass rush. I think letting McClain get away to Atlanta is a big mistake. We have 0 proven talent at 1 technique. Hopefully one of our DT’s will step up and become our much needed run stuffing 1 technique.

That is completely laughable. Its more likely to be bottom five then top 5. We lose ONE player in Lee and it folds like a cheap suit.

I don’t see it on defense. Linebacker is really the same and lee and smith are really week to week players. Not sure Vander Esch is better this season than Hitchens was.

They have a lot of similar players on the defensive line and once again I think good teams that commit to running the ball will run the ball.

The secondary as promising as it seems has a lot of proving to do. Neither of the projected starting corners have ever played a full season.

Throw in marinelli’s scheme and I just don’t see this defense being anything better than average.

This is a young team and I expect a lot of growing pains.
