Dallas Cowboys: Why Chidobe Awuzie is a rising star

One young Dallas Cowboys‘ defender is coming into his own and has quietly put some great performances together. Let’s take a closer look at Chidobe Awuzie.

The whole nation is praising the success of the Cowboys, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Players like defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and cornerback Byron Jones have been playing so well they were named Pro Bowl defenders this week. Even the young linebackers, Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch, are making plays across the field.

But, one young defender is coming into his own, and quietly puts great games together. This player is cornerback Chidobe Awuzie...

They both tend to be in position a lot but also get beat a lot because they never play the ball.

“In the last four weeks, Awuzie has allowed a low 31.25 yards per game, a 48.33 percent catch rate, and a total of only 14 yards after the catch! Additionally, he has tallied four pass breakups to his résumé, per Pro Football Focus.”

That doesn’t sound like he’s been beat a lot recently.

I like Chidobe. He's big, quick, and tackles really well. I feel like he's coming into his own this season at the position. It started off shaky, because QB's were avoiding Byron.

I will admit that I was worried that he'd be oft-injured but so far, he's proving me wrong.

Earlier in the season, yes, Cheeto was the one getting picked on because Byron was lights out. Last few weeks though, Cheeto has been damn good as well. Our DBs seem to always be in position and get a lot of PDs but never seem to actually play the ball for an INT. It's strange.

I expect more but he’s been good for a second round pick

@ the end of last year...He looked like he was gonna blossom...then started the year pretty strong...then has regressed badly as the year has gone on. Not sure what iis going on here. Thought maybe he was being coached up poorly. He seems to be in position all the time to make a play...but he can never find the football....nor does he ever look for it. I suspected he's been coached up to play the man...yet he still seems to get burned more often than not....and doesn't have the INTs to show for it.
