Every Shanahan coached team, especially the late 90s Broncos were infamous for going at the knees of defensive players.

Banning spearing in the 70s was another good decision. If they hadn't gotten so lax with actually enforcing it there would have been a lot less CTE-shortened careers in the 80s-90s.

Yes, Shanahan's Broncos got more mileage out of an undersized O-line thanks to the chop block. I remember it was controversial at the time.

Another one: Being stuck with an obvious bad call that cannot be overturned by replay. Or I should say, that's been reduced, not eliminated. There used to be no changing calls at all via replay.

Careful Bruv, the "that was a catch by Dez" crowd is still miffed.

1. Blowing up WR's. While celebrated, it was always sort of a chickenpoop play.
2. Hitting QB's below the knee and treating them like a rag doll. Once again, sort of chickenpoop. Tackle the guy, don't have to break bones.

These are some of the changes I don't like. Back in the day, you had to be a tough guy to play QB. Tom Brady would have retired 10 years ago if the rules did not protect him. Today, if you even look at Brady with intent, the refs throw a flag. That is not football to me.

I was just having a similar type conversation with my dad and uncle yesterday. Dad grew up playing in the 60's and my uncle in the 70's. Dad played when there were no water breaks during practice because drinking water apparently made you weak. Both said they would love to be able to play today with all the equipment advances, changes to practices (no more Oklahoma drills), etc. They both see the positive changes that have been made to the game.

Field goal tries on the 2 yard line for extra points. Such an odd thing to have in the first place.
