Why Competition Doesn't Faze Jeff Heath One Bit

Jeff Heath has never been handed anything in the NFL. That's why his mindset doesn't change year to year, even with new competition at the safety position.

Good on him!

What competition? His whole career he has had no real competition. What he’s beating out udfa’s as an udfa? Greatttt

Every position can’t have a pro bowler on it. Jeff Heath is cheap and can be solid. If he’s losing us games I’d have to look at the DC.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Well, it would have been nice if they actually got him some real competition in the draft.

Sell short of what? And he made some plays missing tackles.
Yes he’s made some bad plays too. Which is what average players do. Make bad plays and good plays. It’s smarter to spend pennies on a Heath than it is to overpay for Landon Collins. You just can’t invest highly in that strong safety position.

To whiff on tackling like he's done for a SS when that is their #1 job isn't a good thing. Well see in camp if he's better than Iloka.

Heath is a good backup. Good st player.

You can't blame him for the fact that this franchise refuses to draft quality at the position....

And then brings in the likes of George Iloka. Heath will beat him out. People round here talk like Iloka is the second coming of chancellor. Just Cos he's tall...

Blame the front office and coaches. Not Heath...

Heath is not as good a tackler as would be ideal, but let’s stop this nonsense that all he does is miss tackles. He made 85 of them last season, which is a respectable number, and he rarely ever gets beat deep. The team could use an upgrade, but the notion that he has no value at all , or isn’t as good as other teams 3rd and 4th teasers is off base.

IIRC he led the entire NFL in missed tackles

I like Heath, I keep hoping every year for Bill Bates-II, but that does not happen....so, I will go with liking him (would prefer that he was a ST kinda guy mostly)

Your posts are always a good time. That said, if I am reading you correctly you think we should all bow down to Heath because he came from abscurity? I just want a S that can tackle and play. From anywhere. Heath can’t.

You can't stop him...you can only hope to contain him...
Corrected.. You cant stop him...you can only hope to replace him...
Yes, my morning feeble attempt at humor, but the bottom line folks is that the Dallas Cowboys will not invest cap into the safety position.
That's fine, every team has to pick a position that they can not invest large cap in, we are no different.
Having said that, we are sitting pretty with the position.
