Callahan despised garrett because he sucked as being OC and Garret put him in the back seat and subsequently Callahan left. Callahan was shoved down Garrett's throat by Jones....Callahan didn't accomplish anything since he left and there were three opportunities for him to be promoted in the Commanders organization to OC and they actually went with McVay one time instead of him....he thought he was a good OC, but he is actually a good OL coach...
Linehan came to dallas because Garrett wanted him. I think Linehan was tired and wanted to retire and lost all desire...we don't know if he despises Garrett....you are just assuming, so we have to wait and see
I'm not sure why you are over focused on Callahan. I just used him as a reference example. My post had nothing to do with his abilities per se.
Garrett was the one that wanted Callahan as the OL coach. Garrett wanted to run more Zone Blocking. It was one of the best moves that Garrett has made.
It's the same sources reporting Garrett/Linehan and Garrett/Callahan problematic relationships.
It shouldn't be surprising considering the Jones boys are known to allow assistant coaches to go over Garrett's head.
Side Notes (off topic from the original point):
Specifically about Callahan, he is to OL vs OC what Wade Phillips is to DC vs HC (i.e. Excellent OL coach but shouldn't be an OC).
My opinion is that both Linehan and Callahan have the knowledge to be OCs but lack the "feel" for calling the right plays at the right time. Also they seem to have limitations working with players and other coaches due to their personalities.
They had Linehan mic'ed when the Cowboys coached the Senior Bowl prior to the 2016 draft. His interactions with players was odd. I would call it cryptic as compared to other OCs that have been shown in that situation. His play calls seemed random (it was practice but other mic'ed OCs seemed to have an obvious plan even in practices.
It's like many jobs where people are great at their individual job but then get promoted to manager and are terrible in that role because it's a different skill set. I've seen that often in Engineering. Very few great Engineers make good managers.
