Callahan despised garrett because he sucked as being OC and Garret put him in the back seat and subsequently Callahan left. Callahan was shoved down Garrett's throat by Jones....Callahan didn't accomplish anything since he left and there were three opportunities for him to be promoted in the Commanders organization to OC and they actually went with McVay one time instead of him....he thought he was a good OC, but he is actually a good OL coach...

Linehan came to dallas because Garrett wanted him. I think Linehan was tired and wanted to retire and lost all desire...we don't know if he despises Garrett....you are just assuming, so we have to wait and see

I'm not sure why you are over focused on Callahan. I just used him as a reference example. My post had nothing to do with his abilities per se.

Garrett was the one that wanted Callahan as the OL coach. Garrett wanted to run more Zone Blocking. It was one of the best moves that Garrett has made.

It's the same sources reporting Garrett/Linehan and Garrett/Callahan problematic relationships.

It shouldn't be surprising considering the Jones boys are known to allow assistant coaches to go over Garrett's head.

Side Notes (off topic from the original point):
Specifically about Callahan, he is to OL vs OC what Wade Phillips is to DC vs HC (i.e. Excellent OL coach but shouldn't be an OC).

My opinion is that both Linehan and Callahan have the knowledge to be OCs but lack the "feel" for calling the right plays at the right time. Also they seem to have limitations working with players and other coaches due to their personalities.

They had Linehan mic'ed when the Cowboys coached the Senior Bowl prior to the 2016 draft. His interactions with players was odd. I would call it cryptic as compared to other OCs that have been shown in that situation. His play calls seemed random (it was practice but other mic'ed OCs seemed to have an obvious plan even in practices.

It's like many jobs where people are great at their individual job but then get promoted to manager and are terrible in that role because it's a different skill set. I've seen that often in Engineering. Very few great Engineers make good managers.

I don't think anyone is going to be crazy enough to hire a HC with only 2 years of coaching experience at any level....he is not going to take NFL by storm. most of the offense will be same scheme and plays from garrett's play book. in fact I think most of the NFL is similar...how many routes are there!!?.....but what would be interesting and that's how he is going to set himself apart is pre-snap movements (since Linehan didn't like that) and then the route combinations.....I think moore is going to get schooled in a few games....this is the NFL....you have to earn your stripes

ironically new Arizona HC Kliff Kingsbury hasn't earned any stripes and he went straight from ex Texas Tech HC to ex-USC offensive coordinator to NFL head coach
And what about NFL teams that have hired college coaches to be head coaches in NFL ( ala Chip Kelly) where are their stripes ?

Agree about Moore as HC.
Even if he if proves to be Super Awesome as OC, I don't see any team hiring him as HC within the next 2 or 3 years.

McVay started coaching in about 2007 and was hired as HC in 2017. He was about Moore's age but with way more coaching experience.

Disagree about Moore as OC

He is the All-Time wins leader at QB in NCAA division I football. He did that with an arm and body that was inferior to some 8th graders.

He had to have been a master of the game mentally to have that success in spite of very limited physical ability.

Obviously there are no guarantees but he has a great chance to succeed.

The Cowboys should have known what they were getting with Linehan and Callahan. Their play calling history was already established and it showed neither were above average in that regard after many years of doing it.

The keys for Kellen Moore success:
  • Garrett not interfering.
  • Jones boys support him after a "bad" game.
  • Assistant coaches get all players to execute new plays or new "wrinkles".

It would be a bit ironic if Moore ends up succeeding as a new OC. I know, I know, I know its not happened yet and he will take his lumps...this is the NFL, but the irony is Linehan was very high on Moore. He drafted him when he was in Detroit and brought him to dallas….now he was replaced by Moore!...

If Moore suceeds...then maybe we owe a small bit of thanks to Linehan for brining him here!
Totally get what you’re saying. But let us not jinx Kellen by bringing up the past that includes anything Linehan.

My fantasy take on Kellen Moore is that it wasn't just getting Amari that turned Dak around last season. The QB coach was so instrumental in his progress that they decided to promote him.

Ironic events typically have a humorous outcome. I doubt linehan is laughing.

Linehan didn't take much of a stretch selecting and grooming Moore. Though Moore didn't win a Heisman, he is considered to be one of the best college QBs to ever play the position.

He trained his successor. That isn't "irony." Moore was groomed to be a coach for years.
