The TEs they most likely would put on the practice squad need to not be over exposed so they will clear waivers when cut, maybe that's both McElroy and Lucas. We only need 3 TEs on the 53 roster and that's Witten, Jarwin and Schultz. Although, from what I've seem I'd rather keep McElroy than Schultz.

Look who's talking. I just appreciate a good tight end.

putty is the pure white light of goodness.
coachie wants to coach tight ends so he get his pick of them.
do who do u prefer - old man witten, stanford boy schultz or young buck jarring jarwin?

I love Witt and Jarwin. They will be a great combo. Shultz is a Witten clone and will benefit greatly from getting to practice and play with the greatest TE of all time!!!

Actually he does appear to be a bit quicker/faster than in 2017.

I was NOT excited when the re-sign him; however, he appears to have lost weight and is running better.

Jarwin: Good receiver with good range. Minimal blocking ability.

Schultz: A good (James Hanna type) blocker. Less receiving ability than Jarwin.

Witten: Better blocking option than Jarwin. Better receiving option than Schultz.
Jarwin is a good blocker ppl over blow whiffs that happens in game all the times

Witten is a good blocker is a Myth. Like Bigfoot, lochness monster and the Chupacabra. However something going on in Area 51.

I wasn't a big fan of resigning Witten after a year off, loved the guy but thought it was time to move on since we need a tightend to stretch the field down the middle more but I have to say he's looked pretty good and has clearly slimmed down and moving better than he was the year before he retired.....

if i can get what i saw last night with Witten - as Broaddus was saying, 3rd down calls and red zone role, i could live with that for a year, so long as it's limited to that and he takes that much of a backseat to the front 3 of coop-gally-cobb, and his competitiveness doesn't seep out for involvement and higher role demand and catches - and Jarwin is well-implemented as a younger quicker vertical TE in spots and occasions.

Long term i'm still not certain that Jarwin is the future starter at TE as Stephen J after the season did not seem as certain either when he was talking drafting
a starting TE in the offseason before Witten's return was announced.
what also concerns me is we dont really have good in-line blocking TEs, witten's blocking is in decline while jarwin is stil getting blown up at the point of attack
and schultz can be very serviceable at best.

I think both are banged up
But jarwin by reports has looked good in camp
I did not know that, thanks for the info.
I believe they said on the broadcast neither was seriously hurt and both could have played. I suspect they figured they didn’t need to take 5 TEs to Hawaii, and they needed to evaluate Lucas and McElroy for a 4th TE/practice team spot
