What is going to make this 2019 offense ..better than 2018 offense version ?

1) Kellen Moore's version will be much better Scott Linehan’s version

2) Dak improvement- (quicker passes, bigger emphasis on long ball/downfield push)

3) Better red zone performance

4) Run game remaining top notch strong

5) Improved OL (fredrick’s return/ Connor W progress)

6) Pollard’s emergence and utilization (at least 100 touches per year?)

7) Gallup’s improvement/Cooper full year familiar with offense

8) Witten in 3rd down/red zone use

9) Dak more under center (better sets up play-action fakes/passes,RPO )

10) More jet-sweeps/quick bubble screens emphasis

3) Better red zone performance
If line is healthy, I think the running success will improve. I've got to see the passing side improve before i believe it. Tight spaces require high level execution. We haven't excelled in that in the last few years.

....Amen to that, bro. That's a double like. Lets just hope the OL stays healthy.

We have two outside starting WRs that are very capable of getting deep and over the top of defenses, (Gallup is really improving more/more at this) so the quest is to find even more of those types that can add more pressure and threats of over-the-top types as well as big chunk yard runners that excel in space and open field (Pollard, Austin?)

I do have some concerns with these average blocking TEs that could limit the jet-sweeps and bubble screens out on the edges.
Witten is not what he used to be as a blocker and on the decline, and blocking is sometimes spotty and subpar with Blake Jarwin/Schultz. and even blocking is not FB Jamele Olewele's strength,
This is where I think we could lose some force at the point and why we could use more physical stronger TEs upfront.

its going to be interesting with Cobb. while I don't think Randall is in Beasley's league as a productive pure slot guy, he was the best available in FA and what is considered a bargain and has past credentials in that area. Durability will have to be watched, but I have confidence Cedrick Wilson can be counted on in this area and role as well should injuries hit Cobb.

with injuries already a concern with Martin, Smith and McCovern, backup depth quality is going to be huge in this OL unit.
And so far, it's looking like the team will be heavily depended upon Cam Fleming, Xavier Sua Filo ,..and even as of right now Andy Redmon (also can play both center/OG)
Has anyone noticed the Cowboys are trying to get Joe Looney up to par with filling in at OG in the Rams game ? (had a holding call though)

10) More jet-sweeps/quick bubble screens emphasis a mostly ineffective play in the NFL unless you possess perfect timing with blazing speed

2 things that might make this offence better...

I think #8 needs to refer to the entire TE unit and not just Witten. Jarwin will be in the mix all year and will should have an impact as a receiving TE.

I think it will all come down to if Dak is ready to attack the field between the numbers. We have some pieces in place, Cobb and Jarwin that could be dangerous in the seam routes especially if the LB are held with some play action (strong run game needed) and we facing single high a lot. But Dak has been reluctant to attack the middle of the field consistently during his first 3 years. If we can exploit the middle of the field, which should be soft if our run game is as it should be, then this O can really take off.

A bigger emphasis on the long ball would not be a good thing for Dak.

Why? If nothing else it helps loosen up defenses, and even though he doesn't have a cannon arm, that isn't an absolute requirement in order to take an occasional shot downfield.

Not having Elliott,. Okay I'm ready LOL lock I like when they turn Prescott loose and we don't rely on just the running game. I can't wait to see the Innovative offense. Go Cowboys

Talent. A receiving corps that isn't a bad joke, the return of Frederick (fingers crossed that he's his old self), Williams after a full offseason in an NFL strength and conditioning program. Everything else is secondary.

Good list. Gallup developing as a legit #2 option outside opens up a lot of things for Dak if he can work through his progressions. I think Williams will play much better at LG this year as well. Assuming Frederick is even just adequate at C coming off his health issues, the OL should be pretty good.

Now there as also some things that make this offense look a lot like 2018 (inconsistent)

- If they can't cobble together a running game without Elliott

- Witten logging a crap ton of snaps again at TE. Jarwin has his flaws but he at least has a skill set to stress some teams beyond 7 yards. Witten is what he is at this point in his career.

This. I know the Cowboys are vanilla in preseason, but the offense still looks pretty much the same. It will get better more as a result of having better players (including natural development) than anything else.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but what have you seen that leads you to believe this will improve?

i'll give you just one of them - seeing a glimpse of Dak's confidence of quickly setting up, going thru his progression reads quickly, and by gawdly, quickly getting the throw ball of his hands - that will pay huge dividends in this offense, and if you saw the effects of that in the last 3 games of last year (NYG, Seattle, Rams) when he didn't hold, hold and hold ball for forever for drive killing sacks, it made a big improving difference in the pass offense.

What da happened in just the last 3 games ..vs what Dak was doing all year prior to that ?
(and what took this coaching team so freakin' long to make those adjustments ?)
Did someone else in the coaching staff behind the scenes (and aside from Linehan) was encouraged to make the changes in the offense ? (Moore ?)

And if this staff are able to bring that very same Dak improvement tactic and momentum into this 2019 year- this will definitely help this offense greatly.
Now add to a more challenging, stronger emphasizing effort to take more over- the -top -of- defense, long ball shots (ala Gallup vs Rams) that not only gets us a chance at
more favorable chunk yard plays, but also it backs up those safeties and DBs off the line of scrimmage that much more - which helps open more lanes for zeke/pollard.

yes, there's still the issue of red zone performances and effectiveness but there's hope, promise, optimism that we have something to build off of while we address those issues

It's the OL that concern me the most, if there's any worry about a return to bad side of 2018.

- I don't really trust Lael Collins, where he has too many lapses in technique breakdown and blown assignments. He's an underachiever who we will have to wait it out with him
at RT until we upgrade his starting role after he hits the FA market in 2020.
Now he is athletic enough to handle the edge rushers, and he has had proven games in the past where he's actually faired well vs elite rushers (ala Khali Mack, Ryan Kerrigan) ..when he is on his game.
But it's just iffy with him.

- Are you confident enough in reserve backup Cam Fleming, should Tyron have re-occurring back pains that limits or keep him out of games ?
Zack Martin and his own back issues ? the hope of 3rd round pick McGovern being a suitable backup OG seems to be outta the window this far so close to reg season.
Now it's down to the likes of Xavier Sua Filo, Looney and perhaps Andy Redmon.

- If we believe Pollard is legit in having the idea run instincts, power and playmaking ability- and if this OL remains intact, that we be led to believe that we still can an effective enough run
game without zeke ? (I for one, am just not sweating the zeke hold out at all)
