cut? I'm shocked by that. They can't trade him for like a 7th at least!

A sad indictment. Of both the player and the team.

Can anyone recall the last 1st round pick that was outright cut this quickly? It's likely not unprecedented, but it's up there in "rarified air".

Hopefully after this fiasco and the disappointment w T Hill, Jerry, SJ and Will never ever seek, solicit or listen to any advice from Rod Marinelli. In fact dont even let the bum in the war room.
Rod doesn't make the draft board, McClay does! Love how all the great picks fall on McClay but all the bad one's fall on JJ or Garret and so on, anybody EXCEPT McClay! Reminds me of the Jimmy days!

I want to know the really story in him........why is he being cut? He was productive all PS so he’s not awful. Is his attitude that bad? What is it?

Is there more to this than we even suspect? Somethings not right. You don’t just cut a 1st rounder with 2 years left on rookie contract unless something is HORRIBLY wrong.

In any case, Rod can suck it and I don’t want to see him anywhere on my TV during the draft. JJ needs to lock his *** out of the war room.

Our draft record lately has still been outstanding. No team hits on everyone - look at the Pats recent draft history, not exactly pretty.

I didnt say I felt good about anything and "half the board" was in the original post so I replied in gist...without a real search engine here thats more time than I want to spend...are you saying more than half the board wanted these guys where they were picked, you included? Wheres your link?

You exaggerated your comments.

For example, half the board was not against the Martin pick to my knowledge. Most thought it was a solid, smart but maybe unexciting draft pick. He was the best OG in the draft and we had a clear need along the OL to grab someone to pair with Frederick and Smith.

And frankly, Dak was a 4th round pick and I don't think this board really has a lot of posters worrying about if they made the right late round pick. In fact, I think more people were worried we might take Connor Cook more than anything there in the 4th round. Thank goodness for the Raiders.

Smith? Well yeah, there seems to have been a real split there but that was largely due to taking a guy with a severe leg injury. I was for the pick but I can absolutely see why people were against it and their reasoning was valid.

Frederick is the one case where people probably jumped the gun. There were definitely many naysayers of that pick.

I'm not saying you are an idiot, I'm saying this is an idiotic statement. Teams have seen the same thing we have, Taco isn't very good. So I doubt there was much demand for him. Most teams would rather take a chance after he is cut. If they get him good, if not no big deal. Either way they don't use a draft pick.
Do you think every player that gets traded is a quality player? We traded for Jayrone Elliott & Bene Benwikere two years ago...6th and 7th rd picks. Both were on their way to being cut but we traded for them b/c of need and the certainty of attaining the players. Taco should at the very least fit in that category.

Yep. I’m always optimistic, but this will go down as one of the top three worst picks in Cowboy’s history if released with nothing to show for.
Really? Ever hear of WR Dennis Homan? RB Charlie Young? DB Rod Hill? LB Billy Cannon Jr? DT Kevin Brooks? DE Shante Carver? TE David LaFluer LB Bobby Carpenter?

As bad as he is, I don't think he's top 3.

Just for fun, I went poking around the draft thread when it was live.

The only person actively campaigning for Watt was @Floatyworm

But it looks like a lot of people were not excited at all at the time.

Let me help you out. Here's how the Fan Boys view the draft (or basically anything the Cowboys do):

Cowboys nail a high draft pick= = "SEEEEEE! WE ARE OUTDRAFTING EVERYONE!"

Cowboys blow a high draft pick: "All teams miss occasionally."

It isn't like he's the only first round bust in that draft. Solomon Thomas at #3. Fournette at #3. Ross at #10. None of those guys living up to their draft status either.

Who is going to give up anything for a guy when they know he will be cut & was a big mistake on the Cowboys part 27 games 4 sacks !

How long did Carver play here? I'm willing to bet far longer than two years. Same for LaFleur and even Carpenter.

Taco is earning a special place among all time draft busts.

Thomas, absolutely. Fournette, maybe. Ross looks like he is coming around, leads the league in receiving yards after two games.

I guess the only good thing to be said is that we’ve done so well in the draft, having the occasional misfire isn’t as bad as it could be. Hate to miss out on a first round pick, but as I said, we’ve done really well drafting otherwise. Got to look at the positive, I suppose.

On the bright side, it made us forget about Shante Carver!

Shante Carver showed more than Taco has, even at this point in their careers. That's how bad Taco has been.
