Thomas had a drug problem and some type of mental issue, but god if you could of seen him run, 100 yards a game almost at will, say Jim Brown like wouldn't be far. Morton very well lost his SB because Thomas fumbled on the colts goal line the DC center (Manders maybe not sure) came away with the ball but the refs gave it to the colts. Chuck Howley was also the MVP and to this day is the only SB MVP from a team that lost. The Blue Jersey curse was in full effect that day. If Thomas had stayed not sure how many SB Dallas would have.
I think it is a stretch to say that Thomas had a drug problem. Did he partake in the festivities of the day, sure but that is far from having a problem. Thomas just felt taken advantage of and was not going to have any of it. He definitely stepped to the beat of his own drummer. Thomas was big, fast, elusive and powerful. He was a real glider of a runner, imo very OJ like as he was just so smooth.
Unfortunately for Dallas and for DT his drug habit ended up destroying his football career, there was short documentary about him years ago where he went over what happened. Money and Gil Brandt going back on his word about pay didn't help.
Not sure you would compare to today his style was all his own , really smooth and fluid and just fast enough when ever he needed it. Real shame hit on a first round back and only get 3 years but he was a key part in the 2 Superbowl's they reached.
