Correct. Morton had a cannon for an arm. Prior to hurting his arm 5 games into the season I believe he was the leading passer. After that it was a rough go as it was evident that he was not fully healed. His SB appearance vs the Colts he was basically a one armed qb unfortunately.

His years in Denver showed why we drafted him #1 as he got his arm back and they were a wide open passing offense which he fit perfectly into. Great long ball qb in Denver and his arm looked as strong as ever. Kind of sad that we had to end his story book career in Denver with the shellacking that we gave him in the SB. Would have been nice to see him get his ring, just not against us.
* I recall getting his Topps( I think it was that marketed brand/ there were a couple outfits putting em' out on the shelves) bubblegum players trading card when I was a kid once,,, I remember the faintist feelings of getting " jipped":lmao2:

* It's the straight truth, as just the odds of drawing a single player sportin' yer' team laundry were pretty slim to begin with.*

To me, Craig Morton, Danny White and Tony Romo all were similar in that they were great passers, put up some impressive numbers, and ALL had a tendancy to choke in big games.
Getting to the SB and losing because of a bad Ref call on a fumble on the g
Can you expand on some of Thomas' issues? I'm too young to be familiar with that era of football but I always enjoy hearing details from fans who lived it
Thomas had a drug problem and some type of mental issue, but god if you could of seen him run, 100 yards a game almost at will, say Jim Brown like wouldn't be far. Morton very well lost his SB because Thomas fumbled on the colts goal line the DC center (Manders maybe not sure) came away with the ball but the refs gave it to the colts. Chuck Howley was also the MVP and to this day is the only SB MVP from a team that lost. The Blue Jersey curse was in full effect that day. If Thomas had stayed not sure how many SB Dallas would have.

I can't say too much about Morton since I saw very little of him other than Super Bowl XII where his team was completely out matched. I don't know that any of these QBs choked. I never considered not winning as an underdog choking. But like I said, I have very little on Morton. To me choking would be like having your 15-1 team lose to a 9-7 team in the playoffs at home. That's choking in a big game.

I think it is a stretch to say that Thomas had a drug problem. Did he partake in the festivities of the day, sure but that is far from having a problem. Thomas just felt taken advantage of and was not going to have any of it. He definitely stepped to the beat of his own drummer. Thomas was big, fast, elusive and powerful. He was a real glider of a runner, imo very OJ like as he was just so smooth.

Wow! That's so interesting. So he was on a similar level to any of the top backs of today?

Unfortunately for Dallas and for DT his drug habit ended up destroying his football career, there was short documentary about him years ago where he went over what happened. Money and Gil Brandt going back on his word about pay didn't help.

Not sure you would compare to today his style was all his own , really smooth and fluid and just fast enough when ever he needed it. Real shame hit on a first round back and only get 3 years but he was a key part in the 2 Superbowl's they reached.

... here's an article about him. The team nearly won their first Super Bowl with Morton, Super Bowl V, but it wasn't meant to be. Morton was a good quarterback and certainly would have been the long-term starter of the Landry era if the team hadn't gambled an won in drafting Staubach, who turned out to be the better of the two QBs.

Before my time but he had great accuracy, and pocket presence but slow on his feet. Was traded to the Giants for a no 1 pick we got Manster with in the draft.
