I prefer old school crue (Shout and before), but I don't hate all their stuff either.

Def Leppard is the same way. Pyromania and before, but I can listen to some of their stuff after that.

Never liked anything about Poison. They to me where always the epitome of the word Poser.

The first time I seen a picture of Poison I literally thought they were girls.

That's what I thought when I first saw the inside of the Motley Crue Shout at the Devil album lol.

Well, Nikki Sixx was the extremely ugly girl in the group lol

Absolutely. I always despised Poison. Wannabe's.

I find it baffling that they ever reached any level of notoriety.

Agreed!
Pyromania and before were great especially High and Dry which I think is their best album.
The stuff after Pyromania I cannot stand.

Too Fast for Love, especially if you can get a hold of the Leathur Records version instead of the Electra version. It was the perfect mix of pop, punk, metal/etc.

I remember listening to the Bob & Tom Show many years ago and one of the hosts was taking about Duran Duran and how when he first heard them (Rio timeframe here) he couldn't figure out why they were so popular. Then he said he saw the video and it finally dawned on him. I'm guessing a lot of Poison notoriety is something similar.

I think that's a very good summation. In the MTV days of the '80's, how the video looked was nearly as important as how the music sounded. It was a crucial combination at the time. The nostalgic in me misses those music video days, new video debuts were big events at the time.

Video really did kill the radio star.

Those premieres were such a big deal back then. I do miss that myself though now I probably wouldn't want to hear the music of today to go along with the video.

Same here. I can'y listen to current radio. I have Sirius/XM and have been spoiled rotten. I'm a time traveler when it comes to music and the older I get, the further back in time my tastes go.

They need an Internet version of Headbangers Ball again. While I can watch anything on Youtube, it would be nice to have a good show with that format that I can turn on and listen to while working on my hobbies.

I remember staying up to watch Friday Night Videos on NBC (I didn't yet have cable, so no MTV) where people would call in to vote on videos. I distinctly remember watching the "battle" of Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf vs Bowie's Let's Dance. I recall all the girls at school drooling over John Taylor.

Speaking of big releases, I remember the buildup for Thriller. For some reason it was shown on Showtime. Someone who had one of those giant satellite dishes recorded it for me on VHS.

Yeah, far different times. I felt that music was more of a 'big deal' than it is now. But maybe that's my age talking? But I don't know of a similar practice or place like MTV and the videos back then. They were a big deal, along with album releases. Thriller as you mentioned sent the benchmark, Pink Floyd debuting the Wall in England, and listener contests like Mellencamp's Pink Houses. In its heyday, MTV and the video age made music feel like big event entertainment.

Remember Van Halen's "Lost Weekend" contest?
I sent in a ton of entries and being the huge VH fan I that am was fairly certain I would win. Turns out the winner was a 1st class nerd whos first experience with VH was probably hearing Jump.
