DLAW has been getting a lot of flack on here b/c he doesn't have the fancy sack numbers. But there isn't a better DE against the run and the double teams he sees have freed up Quinn.

It's not just sack numbers, it's pressures, hits, and hurries. All ranked in the teens. Very good. Not elite. He's paid elite money. Oh well.

You can rank DLaw higher based on how much you weigh run defense *out of a top pass rusher*. The flexibility is a great help, but I'd say that the actual value at DE is mainly from his pass rush, and that's what I want to pay for.

Well, PFF also considers those things. I'd rather have a guy like DLAW whose solid across the board than a guy like Quinn whose going to break double digit sacks but is an absolute liability against the run.

PFFniks can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe PFF grades weight pass defense and run defense equally, while the NFL calls pass plays about 2/3rds of the time. If this is right, that creates a grading skew in favor of run defenders and against sellout pass rushers that doesn't accurately reflect their on-field value.

For example: per ESPN's pass rush win rate, Robert Quinn is beating blocks at easily the highest rate in football (4% above #2 TJ Watt - the same gap that's between #2 Watt and #7 Aaron Donald and Shaq Barrett), and he's turned that into 9.5 sacks.

He's ranked as a 61.8 overall player because he sucks at run defense.

Now Trysten Hill, with a 2 game sample size, is ranked as a 60.8 overall player.

Like... are you really going to tell me that Robert Quinn is as bad as Trysten Hill.

D-Law I think gets a boost in the opposite direction because of his god-level run defense. He's ranked at 87.7 right now, which is higher than Nick Bosa, even though he's struggled for about half the season to date. I'm a DLaw fan, but you're not convincing me that he's had a better season than Bosa.

These are the only cowboys who rank in the top 10 at their position. (entire NFL)

Zach Martin - #3 G
Amari . #5 WR
La El Collins . #6 T . (right or left)
Dak - #6 . QB
DLAW #7 . Edge rusher .

DLAW has been getting a lot of flack on here b/c he doesn't have the fancy sack numbers. But there isn't a better DE against the run and the double teams he sees have freed up Quinn.

If I drew a list of the best players in my opinion it would look like this. DLaw is pushing it but these have been the best on the team.

Having a few players ranked in the top doest necessarily mean the team as a whole is going to thrive.

Exactly, it's a team game. It takes a team to win.... That's why Dakota getting all the hate is even stupider and misguided.

I don't have an issue. I just haven't seen enough from half of these players to quantify them being in the top 10 of their positions, but stats do not lie.

Just yesterday you said Cowboys lose every Sunday. This is quickly proven wrong by anyone with google experience. So, I believe PFF before I believe some dude on a Cowboy forum who hates everything about the actual Cowboys.

So we have a #7 edge rusher being paid like a #1 and a not listed RB being paid like a #1. Is that right?

At the end of the day, 22 guys need to step it up or their season will be over early.

DLAW had a slow start due to missing most of the offseason. Its all his fault b/c he delayed his torn labrum surgery until he got his contract in April. But, since the Philly game, he's been playing at an all-pro level. Khalil Mack only has 6.5 and he's been healthy all year. It is not all about sacks. DLAW is constantly double teamed and that should in theory free up others to make plays.

Sure, who wouldn't rather have the better player, but is that accounting for their cost?

With the money we spend on DLaw, we could have 3 Quinns. Or all other dlinemen on the 53 with a few mil leftover.

Sounds like you want to play money ball. Elliot was a bigger mistake. Far fewer Elite DE's.
