Disturbing Interception Stats

The Dallas Cowboys have 4 interceptions this season — dead last in the NFL.

80% of NFL teams have at least double our amount of interceptions.

14 players in the NFL have more or as many interceptions as our entire team.

Our secondary is ***, their technique is awful & they always look lost. We might not have the most secondary talent in the league, but it is difficult for me to believe that Richard has done a decent job with our DBs — they look clueless out there when the ball is in the air.

We, as a fan base, have hoped for a playmaking safety & the opportunity has presented itself to acquire one several times, yet we’ve been stuck with bottom of the league fodder. IMO this is a huge weak spot & this team still needs playmakers in the secondary. Coaching these guys to actually look for the ball would be a good start — we consistently do not get our heads turned around & rely on jumping into the receivers with hands up, usually resulting in pass interference.

Richard sure hasn’t done anything to help this!! I cannot for the life of me understand how people support this dude for a bigger role on this team!

Isn't even really an indictment on Richard, as coverage has improved.

We just have an extreme deficiency in our scouting department in evaluating defensive talent. We draft trash, but "speedy" defensive backs and "projects."

This isn't unique to this current group of players or coordinators. From 2011 through the 2019 season, we are dead last in interceptions with 95. New England is 1st with 151.

The CBs rarely look for the ball. It is not more complicated than that.

I pointed that out to my son before his senior year. Once you recognize the route, look for the ball. He led the state in picks that year.

Maybe one of these well paid coaches could mention it:rolleyes:

I actually guessed the #1 team was going to have somewhere around 2-3x the amount we did, I'm surprised it isn't higher.

Yeah as others have said the corners do a terrible job playing the ball. Some times our corner will make a nice play and knock the ball up but the safety is no where near it to pluck it out of the air. I see a lot of other teams who's safety is always a yard or two behind the corner and WR and if the ball gets batted up they are right there to catch it. I'm not talking about double teaming a WR. I just mean in general it seems a safety is always in the area to grab a deflected ball. Those Seahawk teams from a few years ago would get half their interceptions from deflected balls. Course they also had a Prime Earl Thomas. I guess i'm just saying or safeties and our corners both suck.

cause he won a super bowl and dominated Manning in that Super Bowl.

and he helped create the Legion Of Boom.

and his record as a DC is outstanding.

KRichard isn’t the DC in Dallas.

We had a couple of decent years that skew the results a bit. And it's hard to be as bad as we are now across 9 seasons.

Richard wasn't the DC when Seattle won the Super Bowl, he was the DB coach, and he had Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman in their primes in his defensive backfield. Pretty easy to look good coaching those guys. Once he became DC he ended up getting fired after 3 years.

As soon as they brought in Richards and people were already anointing him, I predicted this. If Pete Carroll vocally wants to move on from someone, that someone isn't worth having in most cases. The Cowboys DBs are poorly coached, schemed, and positioned. The entire defense is trash.

Thank goodness Marinelli wanted Taco and Hill instead of a play making DB. Thank goodness we have old reliable Marinelli.

Beat reporters just now starting to regurgitate the stats we posted here last week as you mentioned. And it's still shocking people.

“Kris Richard is an American football coach and former player. Richard was instrumental to the formation of the Legion of Boom defensive secondary. He helped coach and develop players such as Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Byron Maxwell and for his rookie season only, Shaquill Griffin”

“He followed Carroll to the NFL and joined his former team, the Seahawks, as secondary coach.

Richard's secondary's hard-hitting style has led it to be nicknamed "the Legion of Boom." Bleacher Report described the Legion of Boom's accomplishments as a credit not only to Richard, but to Carroll, who was a safety himself in his playing days and began his coaching career as a secondary coach.[2]

After losing Super Bowl XLIX, the Seahawks promoted Richard to defensive coordinator to replace Dan Quinn, who had left to become the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

As the defensive coordinator for the 2015 Seattle Seahawks Richards defense ranked first in points allowed for the season.”
