Okay, I’ll bite. What specifically are the issues with these two excerpts? Did Matt Rhule not win ten-plus twice at Temple?

Oh, no..my apologies friend. My terrible wording left you confused.

I meant the excerpts pointed towards Meyer.

He did some amazing work with Bowling Green and Utah, who were essentially trash programs before he came in. Instantly turned them around and started winning.

Ohio State wasn't necessarily a powerhouse either before Meyer came in.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I'm finding on Rhule..I just can't stand the lack of information being provided, making people think that Meyer pulled a Gruden/Switzer and won with someone else's talent.

Don’t let my comments regarding the talent gap be construed as a dig at Urban (or Riley for that matter). I’m actually a fan if both! Meyer would be fine with me, though I have a bit of a fascination with Rhule (obviously).

Urban won me over at Utah. I suppose I was, in fact, using his recruiting prowess in his days at OSU and UF against him in propping up Rhule, but not that I meant he wasn’t a savvy tactical mind. You were spot-on in pointing that out.

I wouldn’t want Rivera, he’s barely over .500 as a coach but depending on now they got along I could easily see him going to the Giants since he was HC when the current GM of the Giants took over as GM in Carolina and they went to the Super Bowl within a year or two.

Rhule would be awesome but I could see him going to NY as well. Not only is he from NY, and would have coached the Jets if they let him pick his own staff, but he was a former assistant with the Giants so there is familiarity and the whole home town thing.
Rivera is a good DC
HC not so much

he has hired good assistants though. There is a reason a guy like Kyle Allen played well all year. Norv Turner still to this day may be the best qb coach in the league. His qb's always play well. He had success with Alex Smith in 06 when he looked like a complete train wreck around everyone else.

Rivera has held his own through the years and his resume speaks for itself. Obviously he is not the flashy hire and since all the locals already think they are going to get riley no matter who is hired now there will be complaining.

People still listen to what this clown has to say? It's mind boggling. Like nails on a chalkboard while he just talks in circles. If I see him on TV or hear him on the radio, I tune out immediately. His incoherent ramblings mean absolutely nothing.

me too!

And what kills me is if every fan refused to listen, read or watch him and his spawn, they'd lose their radio show and perhaps other platforms that broadcast their nonsense (do they have TV shows too?).

This is the only thing that can shake jeri. Come on folks, quit listening/watching/reading anything that comes from them (& shoot an email/tweet, etc to the platforms that do to tell them you're boycotting anything that includes the jones clan). Its the only thing that can truly effect jeri at this point in his life

I swear, if he lost his fame, he would be CRUSHED. I think even more than losing his money

no. They apparently are doing really well this year. Not sure why they fired ben n skin and really do not care but the station seems to be doing well.

good, maybe that will give them the courage to punt jeri and spawn off the air

That would be DELICIOUS!

the media follows him around like lost puppies and hang on his every word. That’s the problem. Doesn’t really matter who is listening at that point as long as there’s a dozen microphones in his face.

I've been saying this all along about college head coaches.

You look around the league at the coaches considered the hottest commodities to get HC jobs.
NONE are college head coaches without prior NFL experience.

We get carried away so much with unsubstantiated rumors around here (and in the Dallas media) that we/they lose grip with actual reality.

College HCs (with no prior NFL coaching experience) have the lowest rate of success as NFL HCs.
That is just a fact.
Doesn't mean it won't work, but the odds are way lower.

And before someone comes in brings up the Jurassic Era, the world we were in nearly 30 years with Jimmy is long gone.
Scouting is 10x more sophisticated now. College coaches have no advantage in that area at all anymore. In fact, they may even have less because they were focused on their conference vs the entire nation.

@Zordon you called it about rhule
He would be the smart pick but there's a problem...

he has a $10-15M buyout at Baylor. Can't see Jerry's cheap *** paying that for a coach he probably just learned about a few weeks ago.

Maybe Jerry has close enough connections at Baylor through all the games they've played at his stadium to negotiation that number down?

Meh. From what I gather from the Parcells documentary they worked together. Jerry has never not had his hands involved.

The first two offseasons were Bill's. Even really up through that 05 draft and changing of the defense. He was calling the shots.
He fired jerry's pal's in the front office and completely changed how they scouted and what they should be looking for in players.

He also fired broaddus which is fun since broaddus knows everything.

This is old but I missed it the first time... but that gives me hope that he spoke so highly of Rhule.

Like Zordon said, though, Joel Klatt was talking about Rhule on the Ticket this week and pointed out that Rhule has a massive buyout, and he claimed Rhule most likely had a top-6 college salary, which is way up there. As Klatt said, private schools don't have to disclose everything about salaries and contracts like public schools do, so Rhule is making a lot more than the numbers you might be published.

That definitely would give Jerry pause, as much as he hates paying coaches.
