They took a calculated risk in letting Bailey go, and it blew up in their faces.

I'd bet the Vikes wish they could send Bailey back in time to the 1998 NFC Championship.

It seems some people forget Baileys diminishing performance, struggles with injuries, and high cap cost when he was here. Cutting him was the right move. They just picked the wrong guy to replace him.

Took him 2 full years to come back. Meanwhile a rookie who isn’t an all-pro immediately is instantly considered a bust.

Typical CowboysZone thread.

Most everyone wanted him gone when he was let go. He was injured, expensive, and missing kicks.

Fast forward to 2019 and all the Zoners knew it was a stupid move to let him go.

On top of that Maher had ten yards more range than Bailey. That was a weapon at times but of course fans forget that.

Last season Bailey was no better than Maher. They both missed 7 fg attempts. Bailey was 21 of 28 and Maher was 29 of 36. Kickers are streaky. Bailey was going to be pretty costly for the Cowboys to keep and he was struggling. Most kickers come around eventually. We got rid of Nick Folk 10 years ago and he’s still in the league kicking. It comes down to how long can you put up with their cold streaks before you have to make a move.

2018 Maher 29/36...81% with a long of 62
2018 Bailey. 21/28...75% with a long of 52

Both missed 1 XP.

Maher had a bigger leg, with better accuracy...for far less money than Bailey.

After a shaky 2018 season the Vikings cut Bailey’s salary in half when he became a free agent.
