One thing the Cowboys coaching staff may need is the Jimmy Johnson style of Psychology

Peter King claims in this video that Jimmy Johnson has an IQ of 149. A quick google search says it is 162. Did he take another IQ test, or is the reporter just throwing random numbers out there?

Yeah I didn't actually know he had an IQ of 149. If it is 162 that's still good.

His football IQ might be in the millions.

Can we just bring Jimmy back. I'll buy the hairspray if he still uses it :)

A 160 IQ is considered a genius, so it's a big difference.

I wish we could bring him back but I think an apology by Jerry would be in order before Jimmy will hold a conversation with him. And we know that'll never happen.

Good Vid. Thanks just watched it.

That is what Jimmy did. Churned the roster, wanted to see all 11 guys around the ball etc.

Jimmy made 47 trades in 4 years. So nobody can tell me these Cowboys can't do it the era of Free Agency. Even though I still despise Free Agency LOL

Yes, whomever comes in will have to shuffle the roster and that is a good thing. If Urban gets the job it's going to take him a season or two to get things sorted out in my opinion but honestly who really knows..
The problem with Garrett is that his BS never really worked, when we won it was because of a good roster, defense or QB play, I don't believe we really ever did well because of some great message Garrett had because all he was ever able to really do was save his butt and provide hope. If you watch Meyer speak to players, he basically commands their attention and explains how it's going to be or else. Of course Jerry needs to give him some space to work, but I have no doubt that Urban Meyer in particular carries a huge stick.

I was thinking of placing this in the Cowboys History Zone. But I believe this fits in to some of the "coaching threads".

But if anyone listens to the master of Football Psychology. This is a great watch (or listen). Even if you just scrub to some of the things Jimmy Johnson has said. Jimmy has his degree in psychology and he is a master of it IMO.

Some of my favorite one liners starting at 9:55:

It's not always just about being an overbearing coach:

Positive Psychology. Great watch if you have the time.

Jimmy was a master manipulator which included manipulating the emotions of players both individually and as a team.

Most coaches are not all that smart relative to actual smart people in the world but Jimmy was just smarter than everybody else in the NFL including other coaches, general managers, the media, etc..

If I had the choice of 1 Head Coach in their prime to coach the Cowboys for 1 year, I would take Jimmy over Belichick or anyone else.

Sadly, I think if you put Jimmy Johnson in his prime back in this situation, it would not matter.

Johnson was a master at pushing buttons and manipulating personalities.

But I think in those days, he could do it without Jones putting his nose in it.

Back then, players knew who they were accountable to. It was Johnson.

He would cut you if you fell asleep, he would make you hit the asthma field.

Since he left, this is a different set up.

Now you have players who know that if they don't like things with the coach, they can go to Jerry Jones.

They also are a reflection of the owner.

Big time players? You got a brand, you are all about you.

It is sickening but true.

I bet Johnson would have a tougher time playing mind games with today's players.

Most of them don't care. Once they make the league, they are good.

Coaches like Jimmy Johnson have a will of fire. It's that will that makes those teams so tough. The same can be said of Bill Belichick.

An IQ of 149 is really high relative the the average population.

The average IQ of Medical Doctors is believed to be about 125.

The average (at one point) of the top 10% of Law School Graduates was about 125.

The average of IQ of people with a PhD is about 130.

Even at 149, Jimmy might have the highest IQ of any NFL coach in history. At 160 it's almost certain that he would have the highest IQ of any NFL coach in history.

Mensa does not use a specific IQ score for qualification but 140 or above would almost certainly quality for Mensa.

Not a bad idea at all but just keep in mind that the way the CBA is set up right now they could never ever replicate the physical part of what Jimmy Johnson did not allowed anymore, honestly I think going soft on the conditioning that the CBA disallowed is accounting for a lot more injuries popping up ? IMHO

There are a lot of current coaches that still go down and visit Jimmy and go out fishing with him and ask for advice Bill Belichick being one of them although that might be more higher-level football discussions than advice

Jimmy was a great coach. Garrett is a lousy coach. Jimmy is also superior in intelligence to Garrett. Garrett attended Columbia where his daddy was head coach. When daddy went to princeton to be hc of the tigers, Garrett followed him. Very suspicious.

Ed Orgeron, the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, worked under Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carroll, and Sean Peyton. Jimmy Johnson recommended Ed Orgeron for the LSU job, and he will now recommend him for the Dallas Cowboys HC job. Right, Jimmy?

As with many coaches, Ed had some failures, both personally and professionally, but he learned from his mistakes, became a great recruiter, and a future coach of the year. He was passed over for the Trojans job reportedly due to his voice, which is sort of a mixture of cajun, bronx, joisey, and Acadian.

He is adored by his players, he is humble, and he is emotional combined with fiery. Now he is currently in line to win the 2019 NCAA National Football Championship. And he had to beat Alabama to do it!

Many are saying he will not leave LSU for the NFL. But I ask them, how can that be when he is the next Dallas Cowboys head coach?

They reply, "When you wish upon a star, you've just come out of a bar...." Might be something to that, I guess.

Mean while Garrett came out with a video of his own on his coaching mantra. The video was about 10 seconds long and he stated " we will watch film, learn from it and get better. It is a process".

Jimmy spoke to Garrett's style at about 13:57... well, his own style and what he doesn't believe. What he doesn't believe is what Garrett does. Here's exactly what Jimmy said at that point:

"I think if you're sincere. I think if you really come across with how you feel, I think you motivate people. I don't believe in motivating in a phony way. I don't believe in a lot of cliches. I don't believe in going out there and having a lot of phrases and reading quotes from other people but I do believe in being sincere with your players."

I don't think Garrett is sincere. I think he motivates in a phony way. I think he uses a lot of cliches and having a lot of phrases.

Dallas needs a coach that the players respect and are a little scared of. They have become complacent and job security is not a concern for them. That needs to change.

Agreed it needs to change but Jimmy remains the lone coach under the jones reign of terror that was given final say in all football matters. Jerry will never relinquish power. Never.

Some of our divas would demand trades if a hard coach came in and hurt their feelings. No way Jerry hires a non-puppet, anyway.

That was a great video.

When the Cowboys finished 1-15 in 1989, were 3-7 in 1990, and before the start of the 1991 and 1992 seasons; Jimmy expected the Cowboys to win big.

No hoping to win. Instead, guaranteeing the Cowboys would win SBs and instilling the belief in the Cowboys players... that they were the best team in the NFL.

And the players backed up the talk with victories.
