Defensive Coordinator hire will make or break this HC

But you never wanna have to chase other teams in points. Defense is what makes a championship team.

How many times has our team had to score 30+ points in order to win? When your defense cannot give the offense a chance, by stopping opponents when they should, then the offense has to change their ways and play not to what makes them great. For example: when an opponent is ahead by couple touchdowns or it gets late in the game, you have to back away from your running game and put it all on the QB. Leads to interceptions and frankly is easier to defend against when the opponent knows what we are going to do.

What happens a lot is defenses are fine when they're fresh. If they're on the field too long, they break down at the end of the game and collapse cause of fatigue. Just an example.

stats showed we had a top offense as well. stats are ok in baseball, but not football.
Stats are beneficial, but not in isolation. They must be viewed in concert with other stats. The only value a single stat gives is to prompt the question, “what is this telling me and why?”. The answer to that only comes by peeling back the layers.

TOP doesn't matter, but an offense that actually scores points early in games will make a big difference.

Hopefully the new DC is a lot more attack-oriented, rather than constantly worried about giving up big plays.

This, no more cheese head games, where the game was over before it started.

More likely that Nolan or someone else from MM's coaching tree will be tapped to run the defense. If MM keeps Moore as OC, he has to get someone
pretty capable to be DC so he doesn't bomb his first season.

Or talk about catching some heat the first year in.

Nonsense. What makes or breaks McCarthy is who is hiring these coaches.

If Kellen Moore is retained in any capacity, you can hang it up now: McCarthy is doomed to fail just as Wade Phillips was.

Our moron owner has once again convinced himself that he's got the next big coach on staff, and isn't letting him go, regardless of what McCarthy wanted. And McCarthy, unemployed, would probably agree to any stipulation to land a mulit-million $$$ job.

 at the 75% in the poll above who liked the hire. McCarthy couldn't be a more obvious status quo hire.

In the past I agreed with a lot of posts of AmariChills and they were not popular but were mostly true.
I totally agree with you here and fully believe history repeating itself as you alluded to.

Lather, rinse, repeat. All over again.

You might want to browse his coaching record on pro football ref.

One word pretty much describes his record.

stinks.

There are plenty of examples of great coordinators failing as head coaches, then going back to coordinator and succeeding.

Him being a bad HC does not mean he's a bad DC.

Several articles are saying it looks like Nolan will be DC and Moore the OC...........I can live with that......... Garrett didn't have time to totally ruin Moore.

If the Cowboys can't field a good defense, the McCarthy hire is going to look awful.

If we can get a good defense rolling, McCarthy offenses can steamroll teams.

100%

I've been saying for months that the biggest coaching need for the Cowboys is an upgrade and defensive scheme change, I'd offer Marvin Lewis a lot of money, but I'd be happy with Nolan as well.
