Jerry already spent multiple years trying to train his pet project. Now that’s he finally set himself free and the Garrett culture is not around him.

He probably realizes he has little time left, so he went with an experienced hire that knows the NFL workings. He doesn’t want to risk a new college coach or a young name.

Mike McCarthy was a failure worse than Garrett in his last 2 seasons in Green Bay, causing him to be fired mid-season.

I don't understand the excitement of him being our new HC. Is it just because he studied film and has an analytics team? That might be new for him but it's not new for the Cowboys.

IMO, Mike McCarthy road the coattails of great QBs and it's a huge disappointment that he's now our coach. I hope he doesn't have much to do with our offense because without Rogers here to make him look good it's going to be ugly if we use his offense.

This is an interesting read...some really crappy play designs and standard/boring play designs:

Maybe because there were 13 total seasons to look at, 9 of which resulted in trips to the playoffs, and one of which resulted in winning the Super Bowl, and you are only looking at the last 2. Also, maybe because most of one of those last 2 seasons he played with a backup QB. Also maybe because McCarthy has a head coaching record of 125-77 and Garrett has a head coaching record of 85-67.

In the end, of course he's not a sure thing (who would be?), but acting as if he didn't accomplish more than Garrett did is nonsense.

Let’s also remember that those last two years the GM gave him very little to work with. Remember his starting RB? #88, the WR Montgomery. His only other option was the fat lump of injury, Lacey?

He also had DeShone Kizer and Brett Hundley running the QB position, both young and inexperienced, while Aaron Rodgers was out hurt. Both of those guys are on their third NFL teams and appear to be nothing but NFL journeymen that will soon find themselves out of the NFL altogether. You are not going to find many coaches that will have success in that scenario. Brett Hundley is 3-6 in games started. DeShone Kizer is 0-15 in games started.

If you wanna find a reason to cry then you can.

But on the whole Mike McCarthy was easily the most decorated, best possible option.
The reason for the poor seasons are well documented--
Aaron Rodgers injury. Aaron Jones injury and suspension.
Cap mgmt and overall roster overhaul that occurred at the end under Thompson.
The AR mega-extension and new GM that was going to want his own guy in as HC, which happened after less than 1 season.

MM was checked out at the end to be sure. He was both burned out and knew he was going to be fired.
AR was changing the plays routinely.
The GM had no choice but to back AR in a fight there given the 180M contract.

Dallas will be the early favorite to win the NFCE next year.
That will tell you all you need to know about the hire.

Tom Landry was 10-21 his last 2 years. I guess he sucked then?

When GB decided to not pursue FA's, that killed their roster.

It takes a team to win a Super Bowl. Ask Dan Marino.

Do some homework.

One Season was without Aaron Rodgers and the next one with Aaron Rodgers with one Knee.

I think 11-16 was pretty good for that.

Garrett was 4-12 without his starting QB.

Exactly. People’s memories are terrible. After a long run in the playoffs that roster was gutted. Those were not good GB teams.

Actually, 13-3 without Romo the last time Garrett was without his starting franchise QB.

You mean the year Dallas played nobody? Easiest schedule in franchise history.

And 8-8 with all of his starters and some of those L's were against teams without their starting QB's etc...

You do realize that in 2017 the Packers were 4-2 after the first 6 games when Aaron Rodgers got injured and missed the next 9 games as a result of said injury: the Packers went 3-6 in the next 9 weeks so do you really want to blame McCarthy for that????

You also say McCarthy "rode the coattails of great QB's"....a talking point of the idiot Skip Bayless. So by that logic are you saying Sean Payton is a crappy coach that road Drew Brees' coattails? How about Belichick with Brady? What about Tomlin with Roethlisberger? Please stop with the insanity.
