That’s not what he said. McCarthy said he asked for an interpretation of the rule. He knew it wasn’t technically a catch by rule, but he wasn’t going to challenge unless he knew the ref knew the rule. All he said was the ref’s answer to his question is why he challenged it.The more telling thing is the challenge was prompted by Steratore. Just doesn’t seem right.
